  • I am a Fisheries and Aquaculture Scientist and hold a PhD degree in Zoology (Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences) from the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA. I have 22 years of professional experience in rural development, fisheries and aquaculture, value chain analysis, environment and natural resources management (including environment and social impact assessments, climate change), food systems (including post-harvest management and value addition). I have: 
  • 15 years of proven professional experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of research and development programmes in areas of fisheries and aquaculture, environment including climate change, food and nutrition and capacity building in developing countries. I have partnered with governments, the private sector, regional organizations (LVFO) and various development partners (DFID, EU, NERC, World Bank, ICEIDA, BTC, USAID, IDRC, ACIAR, Rockefeller Foundation) to successfully implement consultancies and projects in Africa dealing with fisheries and aquaculture with a focus on environmental impact assessments, climate change, gender and women empowerment, food security and value chain analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in timely delivery of high quality scientific and technical advice to industry, academia, national authorities, UN agencies, donors, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations on climate change, biodiversity conservation, natural resources management and capacity building gained through implementation of projects and consultancies including: Technical Assistance to the Revision Process of the management prescriptions of Lake Kivu Methane Gas Extraction (Rwanda/Democratic Republic of Congo) funded by the European Union and implemented by AECOM International Development Europe SL (Spain); Promoting Environmentally Sustainable commercial Aquaculture in Uganda - funded by the European Union (EU), under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF); Equipping small scale fishers and riparian communities with adaptation strategies to cope with impacts of climate variability and change (National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRRI)/Makerere University collaborative project) funded by  Rockefeller Foundation, USA; Capacity building in Environmental Management of Oil and gas USAID-TetraTech/UGANDA Environmental Management for the Oil Sector (EMOS) Project.
  • Sound knowledge and proven experience with qualitative, quantitative and participatory research methods acquired during implementation of several projects and consultancies detailed in professional experience table and application of the OECD-DAC criteria during review of the agricultural sector strategic plan (ASSP II) & formulation of ASSP III for Uganda.
  • Sound knowledge of current global issues related to climate change impacts, disaster risk, adaptation or mitigation, trends, constraints, research needs related to the management and conservation of aquatic resources, and mainstreaming into training curricular and sustainable development strategies acquired during implementation of projects, including Integrating Hydroclimate Science into Policy Decisions for Climate-Resilient Infrastructure and Livelihoods in East Africa (HyCRISTAL) funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC); equipping small scale fishers and riparian communities with adaptation strategies to cope with impacts of climate variability and change, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation; and IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR), where I served as Lead Author for Chapter 9: Africa, Working Group II.
  • Sound knowledge of the country context in Uganda and the African region through interaction with different stakeholders in the environment, fisheries and aquaculture sector during past and current projects and consultancies.
  • Good leadership qualities demonstrated through over 15 years of research and project management where I have actively collaborated with many national, regional and international institutions and organizations in fisheries/aquaculture and capacity building activities.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with multidisciplinary teams in a professional and flexible manner including international donor organizations, civil society, public and private sector and local communities in multi-cultural settings acquired during implementation of the projects and consultancies outlined in the professional experience table. Familiar with resource mobilization processes.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation ability; demonstrated communication ability and skills gained through facilitation and coordination of several stakeholder engagements during implementation the projects and consultancies listed above.
