Occupational Safety and Health Education and Research Centers (T42)

Objectives: Occupational Safety and Health Education and Research Centers (ERCs) are pivotal in advancing occupational safety and health training. The initiative, led by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), aims to ensure a steady supply of well-trained personnel capable of fulfilling the Occupational Safety and Health Act's objectives. ERCs serve as interdisciplinary academic institutions that offer graduate and post-graduate training, conduct research, provide continuing education, and engage in outreach across vital occupational safety and health disciplines such as industrial hygiene, occupational health nursing, and occupational medicine. The expected outcomes include enhanced regional and national occupational safety expertise and increased collaboration with minority institutions and other training programs.
