Promoting an improved understanding of the critical threat that explosive ordnance presents to affected people in Syria through surveys, clearance and risk education - Rural Damascus - Deir Ez Zor

Objectives: The primary objective of this project is to enhance understanding and address the critical threat of explosive ordnance (EO) contamination in Syria, focusing on Rural Damascus and Deir Ez Zor. Through systematic Non-Technical Surveys (NTS), the grant aims to map and identify contaminated areas in districts hitherto untouched by mine action operations. This process is expected to produce reliable data for prioritizing EO disposal, risk education, and future clearance efforts, enhancing the impact and efficiency of mine action interventions. The ultimate goal is to protect conflict-affected populations and facilitate safe access to humanitarian aid, infrastructure, and basic services, with a strong emphasis on gender and social inclusion. Through targeted Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) activities and collaborations with local communities and stakeholders, the grant seeks to fortify community safety, resilience, and recovery, with benefitting underserved and at-risk groups such as women, children, returnees, and marginalized communities.
