Effectively Strengthening Safety and Security of Biological Research Globally

Objectives: The grant titled "Effectively Strengthening Safety and Security of Biological Research Globally" is designed to support the national implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), with a focus on enhancing the safety and security of biological research worldwide. The project's objectives include developing national policies to foster biorisk management at high containment laboratories, promoting research oversight policies, and coordinating global biorisk research agendas to prevent biological weapons use and laboratory accidents. The program seeks to build capacities through workshops and trainings, particularly targeting countries like Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, and others. By aligning with Executive Order 14292, this initiative aims to mitigate the risks of biological threats globally, thereby protecting the safety of the United States and its allies.
