Knowledge Syntheses for Climate Transformation
WHAT CAN YOU APPLY FOR?
Knowledge syntheses relevant to climate transformation, which strengthen the knowledge base and support the development of effective actions and policies.
WHO CAN APPLY?
The main applicant must be a researcher with a doctoral degree working at an administrating organization approved for all types of Formas calls, such as universities, higher education institutions, research institutes, and government agencies with research assignments.
HOW MUCH CAN YOU APPLY FOR?
You can apply for a maximum of SEK 4 million for one project. Funding can be applied for projects lasting a maximum of two years.
The total budget for the call is SEK 60 million.
The climate transformation, which here includes both emission reduction and adaptation, is one of the greatest societal challenges of our time and there is currently a wealth of research that highlights various aspects of this transformation. To strengthen the knowledge base and support the development of effective measures and policies, this call calls for knowledge syntheses that systematically compile existing research and knowledge.
The purpose of this call is to fund knowledge syntheses that, based on a well-justified question, 1) clarify what the overall research conveys, in what respects research results are consistent or contradictory, what uncertainties and knowledge gaps exist, and 2) convey knowledge and recommendations for policy development, measures or new working methods for relevant target groups based on conclusions based on the knowledge syntheses. It is also important to compile and review studies of previous measures and their effects, which can support further climate work.
The call is made within the framework of the national research program on climate, which aims to contribute knowledge for a comprehensive societal transformation that addresses climate challenges. This is done by funding research and innovation that can contribute to rapid emission reductions, adapt societies to a changing climate, and work to ensure that climate work is conducted in line with long-term sustainable development. The call is aimed at researchers working at an administrating organization that is approved for all types of Formas calls, such as universities, higher education institutions, research institutes, government agencies with research assignments. The knowledge syntheses can be disciplinary or interdisciplinary and they can be carried out using different methodological approaches. However, it is a requirement that the knowledge syntheses focus on a clearly defined issue relevant to the climate transformation and are conducted in a systematic and transparent manner. Dialogue with other societal actors is encouraged.
Through structured and carefully conducted knowledge syntheses, the projects are expected to help decision-makers navigate complex issues related to the climate transformation and to translate research results into practice and policy, as well as to identify needs for future research and innovation efforts.
