About the Funding Agency
UNEP - United Nations Environment Programme - is an agency of the United Nations that coordinates its environmental activities, assisting developing countries in implementing environmentally sound policies and practices. It was founded as a result of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in June 1972 and has its headquarters in the Gigiri neighborhood of Nairobi, Kenya. Recent World Bank‑supported projects are strengthening climate‑resilient road and rail networks to improve connectivity and trade, and expanding digital infrastructure and public services to drive growth and inclusion. Urban mobility and basic infrastructure investments in secondary cities are helping improve access to services and economic opportunities for populations affected by instability and climate shocks. While security and fiscal constraints complicate implementation, infrastructure development remains a core component of the country’s medium‑term growth and resilience strategies.

Burundi
