Description

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has launched a program entitled "NIOSH Education and Research Centers" the goal of which is to support the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Education and Research Centers (ERCS) in order to understand the problem of occupational safety and health (OSH) in the United States by offering state-of-the-art interdisciplinary training for the future generation of OSH experts.
CDC is a United States federal agency and one of the key operating mechanisms that are part of the Department of Health and Human Services. The main aim of the agency is to provide public health safety via the monitoring and prevention of disease, injury and disability around the world and particularly in the United States.
NIOSH ERCs provide help in turning scientific findings into practice via effective education and training. ERC trainees along with key personnel work together with stakeholders to come up with new approaches to improving workplace safety and health.
The program aims to help ERCs play an important role in preparing the occupational safety and health workforce to react to new problems that occur as a result of the varying nature of work.
The list of applicants that are eligible for the program includes: • County governments • Independent school districts • Non-profits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, aside from institutions of higher education • Public and State controlled institutions of higher education • Private institutions of higher education • Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities • City or township governments • State governments • Special district governments • For-profit organizations other than small businesses • Small businesses • Native American tribal governments (federally recognized) • Native American tribal organizations (other than federally recognized tribal governments)
