UN Women Afghanistan Country Office (ACO) is structured to ensure greater cohesion between the programme areas through four thematic areas: Eliminating Violence Against Women Pillar (EVAW), Governance and Leadership (G&L), Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) and Women Peace and Security (WPS).

Organizational Context :

The Women’s Economic Empowerment Unit of UN Women Afghanistan Country Office is seeking to recruit one Master Trainer – Business Planning and Development, to lead four bootcamp training weeks in different provinces

The Powering Change has been designed to tackle two critical barriers of young women to meaningfully engage in economic activities. Given the fact that 63% of Afghan population is youth with high unemployment rate at 31% and 42% of youth neither participate in education system nor receiving training. In addition, stereotypes of women’s role in the society and restriction of movement made young women in Afghanistan have limited opportunity, capacity, resources and experiences to participate in the economy and benefit from income generation activities.

In order to address the issues, Women Economic Empowerment Unit of UN Women Afghanistan Country Office 2nd phase of the Powering change to engage young women throughout Afghanistan who have innovative business ideas but lack of skills and resources to bring their ideas to life. The Powering change will be offered a one-year package of capacity building, incubation, mentorship and seed grants to selected applicants to make their business ideas come to life.

With the aim of promoting participation of young women in economy and support young women to establish their own businesses, UN Women is looking for one (1) national consultant to lead and deliver the bootcamp training followed by finalizing the business plans for the selected entrepreneurs and prepare the final report.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Women’s Economic empowerment (WEE) is looking for a national consultant to deliver training sessions on business development, financial management, entrepreneurship and leadership skills along with finalizing business plans for approximately 100 young women participants in 4 different groups, each group of trainings are consisting of 25 participants.

Develop training materials (manual, handouts and PPTs, exercises, materials for activities) in English. The training topics shall include but not limited to:

Starting a business
Product development
Improving/ expanding a business
Market assessment
financial management
Income generation and sales
Production and stock management
Basic accounting to record revenue and expenditure/bookkeeping
Risk management
Marketing (online and offline)
Customer relations
Business registration and tax management

2. Deliver 28-days training for approximate 100 participants at the venue identified by UN Women in 4 sessions, where each session will have 25 participants in different dates and locations.

3.Develop criteria for selection of the top 55 business plans among 100 participants.

4. Facilitate “Elevator Pitch” to select top 55 business plan.

5.Coach and advice finalization of 55 business plans and its implementation plans.

6. Prepare final report providing overall trainings reflects content delivered, challenges, lessons learnt, recommendations and follow up plans/activities to be undertaken.

The consultant will be working for 54 working days distributed for three months and the deliverables will be the following:

Updated and customized version of the existing training materials for the business bootcamp training (5 working days)
Training delivery, 28 working days
Business plans for 55 selected Young Women Entrepreneurs, 16 working days
End of assignment report, 5 days (The reporting template will be provided by WEE unit)

The trainer should review, finalize, and approve business plans of trainees. 2.5 hours is dedicated per business plan where 13 businesses are supposed to be selected from each bootcamp. (13*2.5=32.5 hours) = 32.5/8 hours= 4 working days)

The Consultant will be based in Kabul UN Women Office and it is required for the consultant to travel to the training area as identified by the Women’s Economic Empowerment Unit.
Security: The consultancy shall be governed within the security arrangements of the UN in general and UN Women in particular, and will be supported accordingly;
The contract payments will be based on the submission of quality deliverables certified by the WEE Programme Manager.

Competencies

Proven experience in leading similar business training workshops;
Strong training and facilitation skills.
Excellent inter-personal and general communication skills, written and oral;
Must be self-starter with excellent demonstrated teamwork skills;
Demonstrated sensitivity, discretion, tact and courtesy in relation to gender equality and women’s rights, development principles and projects.
Commitment to upholding the organizational values and principles of UN Women Afghanistan.
Essential computer skills – familiarity with Microsoft Word programs, internet, e-mail.
Ability to work under pressure, to follow deadlines and handle numerous tasks simultaneously.
Proven ability to liaise with myriad stakeholders and partners, including government, civil society, international organizations and grassroots organizations.
Commitment to upholding the organizational values and principles of UN Women.
Demonstrated sensitivity, discretion, tact and courtesy in relation to gender equality and women’s rights, development principles and projects.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in the field of Business Administration, Enterprise Development, Economics or other related area.

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in leading business training, incubating entrepreneurs’ innovation management and business development for micro-businesses
Experience in developing business curriculum and business management
Experience in leading business training workshops

Language requirement:

Fluency in professional written and speaking English and local languages (Pashto and/ or Dari).
