United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China is the China country office of United Nations Development Programme – the global development network of the United Nations. UNDP China has an extensive history in working in the area of poverty reduction, energy and environment and sustainable development and it also increasingly engages in South-South cooperation projects. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Responsibilities :

Under the guidance and supervision of the Operations Manager, the Intern provides operational support services ensuring high quality and accuracy of work, execution of transparent and efficient services and processes in CO. The Intern promotes a client, quality and results-oriented approach.

The Intern works in close collaboration with the operations, programme and projects staff in the CO and other UN agencies staff to exchange information, resolve procurement and administrative issues and ensure consistent service delivery.

Conduct market research and supplier sourcing.
Consolidate asset data and supporting document.
Help develop tender documents.
Assist managing competitive bidding process including bid opening, bid evaluation, consolidate evaluation document.
Conduct market research
Update and prepare internal learning materials.
Update consultant roaster and supplier roaster.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

The intern is also expected to have proficient English editing skills and be able to conduct Chinese to English and English to Chinese text translation.

Ensure that the translation text is technically, linguistically and grammatically correct. The translation services provided should be of high quality, and would not need further editing after completion of translation;
Provide accurate and timely translation to the satisfaction of UNDP standards;
Observe confidentially and refrain from divulging any information about the content of the text;
Translation shall be done within agreed deadlines;
The documents translated remain the copyright of UNDP and should not be shared to any third party;
Set up database of UN/UNDP terminology;
Research and analyze the needs of Operations unit and develop several Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at UNDP.

Competencies

Language skills:

High level of proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese required;
Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

IT skills:

Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools;
Some familiarity with graphic design software or web-based tools is an asset.

Other competencies and attitude:

Sound communication skill and sense of judgment;
Database management skills;
Detail-oriented, preferably with previous administrative and office management experience;
Eager to learn new things and gradually adapt the theory into practical work;
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Education and Experience

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or;
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (undergraduate; minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
Have graduated with a university degree (first university degree, or second university degree or equivalent, or higher) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Major in translation, interpreting, English, International Development, International Business or other relevant fields is strongly desired.
