Background

Uzbekistan stands at an important point of its demographic, economic and technological transition. The growing young population theoretically gives it a “demographic dividend” but harnessing this potential requires creation of an enabling environment, which fosters the significant scope offered by the digital economy and transformation, strengthening the education system and ramping-up productive capacities in the economy to meet the demands of the future of work for professionals with digital skills.

The goal of the project is to empower young people, especially women, with digital entrepreneurship skills, tools and enabling environment to increase their employment opportunities, competitiveness and resilience to COVID-19 and similar crises, and thus, to reduce inequality, ensure inclusive, innovative and sustainable economic growth, and job creation.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will assist the Project Team by supporting the development and implementation of the project activities, including outreach and communications, mainstreaming digital economy and digital entrepreneurship as well as supporting efforts to collect and manage knowledge materials. The direct supervisors of Intern are Programme Manager, Task Managers, Administrative and Finance assistant of the Project.

Specifically, the intern will under the direct supervision and guidance of the Project Manager:

a) Mainstreaming digital economy and digital entrepreneurship

Provide research, writing and editing support on analytical documents related to digital digital economy and entrepreneurship, digital skills, youth employmnent, migration, fin tech producst, e-commerce, trade, laws and regulations;
Contribute to designing and implementation of initiatives, projects or programmes;
Participate to all related event activities, including but not limited to, design of invitations, outreach to participants, travels
Provide administrative support on an as-needed basis;
Other tasks as required by the project team.

b) Collect and manage knowledge materials

Search, collect and maintain best national and international practices on digital technologies, digital skills development programmes, trainings and courses, youth employment and curate these knowledge and stories among Programme Team and National Project Partner.
Support data visualisation by creating knowledge maps, infographics and visual reports
Support knowledge management systems and tools of the Project team

c) Support the partnership engagement with stakeholders on digital digital economy/ entrepreneurship;

Support to partnership engagement strategy: reach out to business, NGOs with focus on start-up, social enterprises, digital skills development, that may be interested in joining project activities.
Assist in development and continuously update a database of potential actors, from private sectors, development partners, governmental partners and experts, who are critical to the project objectives;
Assist in developing data base on international and local consultants, expets.

d) On outreach and communications:

Support development and translation of Press Releases and translation of statements, briefs, into English and/or Uzbek/Russian.
Contribute to the development and implementation of the Project team’s communication plan
Support the planning and implementation of events and consultations, specifically focusing on engaging stakeholders through visually appealing pre/post communication products
Develop thematic briefing notes, newsletters, web stories and summaries to facilitate learning
Support with the livestream of events including by preparing the equipment and room and ensuring these are of high quality

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education:

(a) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) in finance, economy, ICT or other related fields;

(b) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

Min. years of relevant Work experience:
Demonstrated interest and/or experience in projects/programmes on digital economy and entrepreneurship.

Previous experience in government or private sector (i.e. analyst, market researcher, IT project implementater, conducting surveys, data collection, internship) would be highly regarded.
