Project coordinator epidemiological study

The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp aims at the advancement and spread of science that contributes to infectious disease medicine and to public health globally with focus on low- and middle income countries, inclusive of their global dimensions. The ITM provides fundamental, translational and applied scientific research, delivers advanced education and provides medical, scientific and societal expert services. The ITM is an open and international campus where staff, students and researchers work on new international health challenges.
The ITM in Antwerp, thirteen African countries and an international network of research institutions have joined forces to launch the largest COVID-19 clinical trial in Africa. The ANTICOV clinical trial responds to the urgent need to identify treatments that can be used to treat mild and moderate cases of COVID-19 early. The full consortium includes 26 prominent African and global research and development (R&D) organizations, coordinated by the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), an international non-profit drug R&D group with extensive partnerships in Africa.
The ANTICOV Epidemiological study (ANTICOV-EPI) is an ancillary study to this clinical trial, led by ITM, and taking place at 8 sites in 6 countries in sub-saharan Africa (Ghana, Mozambique, Kenya, DR Congo, Mali, Ethiopia), and evaluating household transmission and efficacy of the use of rapid diagnostic tests in these settings. ANTICOV-EPI is looking to hire a coordinator to support the trial in these 6 countries. Most of the work is being conducted at ITM, Antwerp, Belgium, but staff must be prepared to travel on short-term assignments in the countries mentioned above.
Assignment
· You coordinate the activities of ANTICOV-EPI and support the project in close cooperation with the supporting services of the ITM (Research Office, Accountancy, Project Management, HRM & purchase service).
· You coordinate ITM’s participation and ensure the administrative (including ethical legislation) and logistic preparations at ITM and at the sites of the research study.
· You ensure regular communication and follow-ups with and between the different project partners, including weekly meetings, daily emailing, and ad-hoc requests.
· You conduct logistics activities, including procurement, follow-up of stocks, and in country’s orders and supplies.
· You participate in external and internal reporting.
· You support organization of trainings and scientific follow-ups.
· You liaise and coordinate with other ANTICOV activities (Master trial and Immunology Ancillary).
· You will report to the scientific lead of the project.
Profile
· You think and reason at Master’s level and hold a relevant diploma.
· Experience with working in the LMIC and/or with partners from LMIC is an asset.
· Experience in project management, with substantial knowledge of financial, administrative, legal and standard logistic procedures (i.e. in research projects: lab procurement, shipments, stock management, subcontracting, privacy & ethical legislation).
· Experience working with consortia is an asset.
· You are available at short notice, given the schedule of the study.
· You are flexible to travel to sub-Saharan Africa for short time periods (max 2 weeks).
· You have a demonstrated willingness and capacity to work with a fluctuating workload.
· You are fluent in English and French. Knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
· You have team spirit and are open to multi-disciplinary and multi-partners interactions.
· You are highly motivated, quality-minded and result-driven.
