Position: Sr. Communications Officer

Status: Consultant/Staff position (depending on location)

Type: Full-time

Schedule: Flexible

Compensation: $84,000-$126,000 USD* depending on experience and location

Location: Remote. Candidates based in the Global South are strongly encouraged to apply.

Position Overview
Girls First Fund (GFF) is seeking an innovative, knowledgeable, and bold communications leader to join our team as we shift into a more visible phase of our organizational history. This Sr. Communications Officer will be our first, full-time communications team member. The Sr. Communications Officer will work directly with the Fund Director and play an essential role in developing and implementing the Girls First Fund’s communications strategy and plans. The Sr. Communications Officer will lead a range of communications and engagement activities that connect, inform, and inspire the Girls First Fund community–and that uplift the work of the community-based organizations it supports.

Core Functions
The Sr. Communications Officer will:

Develop and implement GFF’s annual communication plans and budgets
Coordinate implementation of the communications and content strategy
Support outreach and learning dissemination efforts
Maintain and update GFF’s website and channels, including managing the communications calendar and supporting the production of new content for blog, social media, emails, publications, campaigns, and other Girls First Fund communications,
Coordinate publications, events, and content creation and story gathering with GFF staff and partners, as well as contribute to learning and evaluation strategies, and
Support liaison and joint communications initiatives with GFF strategic partners (i.e. VOW for Girls, Girls not Brides, and grantee partners)
The Sr. Communications Officer will work directly with the Fund Director and coordinate closely with other GFF staff.
Key Responsibilities
The Sr. Communications Officer will have the following responsibilities:

● Manage the content, style, and appearance of the Girls First Fund website, ensuring continuity with brand identity and core messaging.

Regularly audit the GFF website and draft updated content with the support of other team members;
Establish systems for regular analysis of website usage statistics and produce reports and recommendations based on the analysis; and
Manage website and other online vendors, and monitor and ensure website security.

● Manage the Girls First Fund editorial calendar and contribute and edit new content.

Work in close cooperation with colleagues to develop and implement donor engagement and targeted outreach campaigns;
Create content for specific groups within the GFF community, such as funders and potential funders, peer grantmakers, etc.;
Maintain and share content across social media channels, on a range of platforms, such as Twitter and LinkedIn. Develop and curate content, schedule and execute posts, monitor and reply to responses;
Draft, edit, and submit articles, op-ed pieces, and letters to various media outlets/platforms;
Draft, edit and submit advocacy and learning pieces to relevant audiences;

● Project/production management of publications and communication products such as newsletters, annual report, video for toolkits, learning and advocacy pieces, etc.

Draft, edit and finalize materials
Lead search and selection process for vendors such as graphic designers, photographers, and website developers and manage their work;
Develop project timelines and coordinate work across staff and partners; and
Ensure products are in line with GFF brand guidelines, communications approaches/values, and core messaging.

● Manage systems/procedures that support communications and community engagement, such as:

Project manage and plan webinars
Coordinate and manage file resources and the GFF media library (photographs, video and other media), including the photo bank, photography guidelines, including consent and attribution, and photo/videography contracts and contracting procedures;
Manage online and offline mailing lists, supporting data integrity across the organization, including across databases and contacts management systems, etc;
Support community events planning, specifically design and brand management of related communications collateral, promotion, and follow-up
Develop protocols and materials for crisis management and processes for activating these protocols
Support internal communications

● Support initiatives to strengthen grantees capacity on communications

Skills and qualifications we’re looking for:

Bachelor’s degree and/or minimum 6 years of communications experience (preferably non-profit and gender justice)
Demonstrated commitment to racial, social, and economic justice, and willingness to be in deep practice (living our values) toward creating an equitable world with an awareness of how structural issues affect our work together
Both a strong orientation toward collaboration and capacity to drive work independently and think creatively
Strong writing and editing skills with an emphasis on clear, inspiring and persuasive writing; strong graphic design instincts (background in graphic/web design a plus)
Ability to set clear and measurable goals while holding space for emergence, experimentation, and group processes
Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate openly in a team environment with multiple constituencies and audiences, and the ability to build relationships of trust and a commitment to their value
Facility with virtual content management platforms, including WordPress a plus, as well as other platforms such as Canva, Google Drive, Dropbox, Mailchimp, etc.
Experience with design software like Photoshop or Illustrator, meme & gif generators, and/or apps like Canva a plus
Experience with Google and social media analytics and ability to use data to inform digital strategy
Project management and organizational skills – and attention to detail where required
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work gracefully under pressure
Ability to be flexible, creative, welcome uncertainty, take the initiative, juggle different types of activity, and adapt to circumstances
Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders across cultures and geographies
Ability to coordinate with other colleagues to ensure consistent messaging.
Strong judgment and discretion in dealing with sensitive information
Direct experience in one or more of GFF’s regions a plus: Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Must be willing to be available for events and meetings on Eastern Standard Time when necessary

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands of this position are light with the expectation that the staff person can exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. The position requires frequent computer use at a workstation. As GFF staff work in a number of locations and come together for meetings on occasion, all staff must be able to travel by car and plane to meetings at locations nationally and internationally. Availability to travel and maintenance of a valid passport is required. GFF will make reasonable accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. What we offer:

You will be our first full-time communications team member and will help us put in place the systems and consistency to build a foundation for the possibility of a growing team.
We are anticipating offering a salary range of $84,000-126,000 USD per year for est. 40 hours per week of work.
Flexible work from home or wherever works for you, as long as you are able to attend meetings and events as required.
