FIDH (Fédération Internationale des Ligues des Droits de l’Homme – International Federation for Human Rights) is an international human rights NGO. Since 1922, we have been engaged in defending the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We are a federation of 192 national human rights organisations working in 117 countries. We believe that transforming society is primarily the task of local people. The aim of our work is to strengthen their influence and their ability to take action.

FIDH’s International Secretariat is a small-scale organisation (45 staff in Paris and several offices abroad) and consists of a dedicated international team. Our premises are located in a lively area in central Paris, near the Bastille and Gare de Lyon.

FIDH is looking for an intern for its Eastern Europe and Central Asia desk in Paris.

Working directly under the supervision of the Head of the EECA Desk, the successful candidate will have the following tasks and responsibilities:

1. Preparation of fact-finding and judicial observation missions
2. Research on human rights and humanitarian law violations in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine and the repressive environments in Russia and Belarus
3. Monitoring of human rights developments in Eastern Europe and Central Asia
4. Drafting of reports, advocacy documents, communication tools, i.e. press releases and articles
5. Preparation of events (workshops, conferences) in Europe and elsewhere
6. Proofreading, editing, translation of reports, publications and other internal documents

Intern’s profile:

A. He/She is preparing a Master’s degree in International Law / Human Rights / International Relations
B. He/She communicates and writes fluently in English and Ukrainian or Russian, knowledge of French is appreciated
C. He/She has a strong interest in international law and human rights

Terms and conditions

Full-time internship (35 hours per week) for 6 months;
50% of the cost of the travel pass is reimbursed;
1 meal ticket per working day reimbursed up to 60%;
The amount of the allowance is fixed at 3,90€ per hour or 591€ (151h67); 
Internship agreement required.

Period: June 2022 - November 2022

Location: The internship will take place at the FIDH International Secretariat in Paris
