YOUR MISSION
As Head of Unit (div/f/m/*) for our Middle East Unit you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the unit and its strategy. You will provide thematic/substantive support to project teams and ensure internal coordination and coherence within the unit. Currently the unit has a total of 12 staff members at headquarters in Berlin and our regional office in Beirut, working on Syria, Lebanon, and at the regional level; additional projects in other countries are planned or in preparation (e.g. Iraq).

Hours: Part-time 80% (32 hours per week)

Project support
- Support and provide advice for project implementation
- Ensuring coordination and coherence within Unit
- Provide regional or topical analysis, including trends monitoring
- Initial vetting of project ideas
- Approving interim reports to donors
- Sharing networks, knowledge, expertise with colleagues in the unit
- Personnel management and development of Unit team members, including career pathing, coordination and cooperation with relevant internal entities
- Staff appraisals
- Facilitates conflict mechanism if needed
- Strategic fundraising for the Unit
- Strategic networking for the Unit, representing Unit within and outside BFO (partners, donors, peers, etc.)
- Overall responsibility for the development of concept notes and project proposals
- Further development of Unit strategy
- Reporting to Head of Department and participating in department meetings
- Chairing unit meetings and ensuring documentation of outcomes
- Further tasks might be delegated to you by the head of department
