Would you like to develop the early stages of your career by playing an integral role in the delivery of port and marine engineering projects around the world? We are seeking a Graduate Engineer to join the NIRAS family and be involved in all stages of projects, from feasibility and masterplanning through to design and construction. Our current project portfolio includes the world’s first offshore energy island and a new landmark port in the Maldives, amongst many others.

With sustainability and innovation at the core of what we do, the types of project you will be involved in include port and terminal structures, offshore wind support bases, slipways, ro-ro facilities, breakwaters, dredging, reclamation and foundation structures. As well as design and analysis activities, you will have the opportunity to be involved in port masterplanning and our cutting edge smart and green port initiatives.

About the job

You will be based in the UK and be part of a global team delivering projects internationally. Our ports and marine centres of excellence are in Denmark, the UK, the UAE and Indonesia, and you will have the opportunity to travel to those offices as well project sites around the world.

With the support of your colleagues, your principal duties and responsibilities include:

Design and assessment of ports and maritime structures
Participation in technical, feasibility and optioneering studies
Port masterplanning support
Assisting with site-based inspections, surveys and construction supervision
Production of deliverables such as calculations, reports and drawings
Preparation of contract documents, specifications and bills of quantities
Actively participating in your professional development to achieve chartered status
Communicating and collaborating with colleagues in the UK and abroad
Working in line with NIRAS QA procedures.
We recently launched our new energy strategy in which 13% of NIRAS’ annual profits will be invested over the next 10 years to support the green energy transition. You will play a part in this through your involvement in projects that support offshore renewable energy as well as smart and green ports.

About you

For this exciting position you will need:

A degree in civil or structural engineering
Up to 3 years of post-graduate experience in maritime, bridges, highways or other civil engineering disciplines
A keen interest in ports and marine engineering
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Software and IT skills such as Microsoft Office, structural analysis software, coding, AutoCAD, BIM, etc are desirable
Willingness to travel in the UK and abroad
An appetite for learning and motivation to become a Chartered Engineer.
Ideally you will have the right to live and work in the UK. Sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route may be possible but cannot be guaranteed.
