Introduction:

ICES is currently seeking a highly motivated Research Analyst to join our Research and Analysis Department. Reporting to the Research Program Manager in the Chronic Disease and Pharmacotherapy Program, the Research Analyst will work collaboratively with the Ontario Drug Policy Research Network (ODPRN) to provide analytic expertise for their projects. The ODPRN is a global leader in integrating evidence into policy-making to impact societal outcomes and improve healthcare system efficiency. The ODPRN works closely with policymakers in Ontario to provide timely, relevant, and scientifically rigorous research to guide and inform their decisions. ODPRN researchers have expertise in pharmaceutical utilization, safety, effectiveness, and policy evaluation research.

Responsibilities of the position include, but may not be limited to:

Under supervision of the Research Program Manager and in collaboration with the Principal Investigator, collaborating Scientists and colleagues, the Analyst will perform the following duties:

Help develop and execute dataset creation plans and analyses for their assigned projects;
Develop SAS programs to create and analyze study cohorts and prepare analytic outputs from ICES databases according to dataset creation plans and following analytic standards and guidelines;
Liaise with project teams and colleagues to ensure project checkpoints and quality assurance reviews are conducted as required through the project life cycle;
Work effectively and efficiently according to ICES policies, procedures, standards and guidelines;
May contribute to the writing of technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, web-based materials, abstracts, presentations, posters and other deliverables;
May interface with internal and external stakeholders in support of the project, to present findings, or to facilitate knowledge uptake by decision makers as required;
May contribute to the development of a body of knowledge in support of ICES, for example through developing technical guidance documents or educational materials;
May contribute to other committees or activities within ICES in support of ICES business plan as required;
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

Master’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, or related field;
Knowledge generally gained through 2 years related experience;
Working knowledge of how to use large population based datasets in health services research;
Strong SAS programming skills; knowledge of SQL and macro writing an asset;
Understanding of the concepts of health services research and core bio-statistical analytic techniques;
Proficient in the use of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, Internet Explorer), as well as the ability to work with computerized databases;
Well-developed oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
Ability to manage and prioritize workload responsibilities to meet deadlines;
Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure;
Knowledge of health administrative databases, and experience in pharmacoepidemiology, are assets.

Security clearance may be required.
