Project description:
AHT has been invited by the GIZ (German Corporation for International Cooperation) to submit a proposal for developing a framework for the implementation of the landscape Project approach for managing Forest Ecosystem Services for the Western Himalayas. The assignment will be part of the larger Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystem Services project. It will be an intermittent assignment, starting in February 2023 and should be completed in December 2023.

The assignment will implement the following tasks:

  1. Selection of two landscapes, one in Himachal Pradesh (in Kangra or Shimla Districts) and one in Uttarakhand (in Dehradun or Nainital Districts); the landscapes should be representative for the landscapes of the states;
  2. Identify best practices for implementation of the landscape approach. Conduct stakeholder mapping and consultations in the selected districts, review external aid projects, review institutional arrangements and stakeholder roles, review relevant policies and guidelines, and draft a strategy and institutional arrangements for testing the landscape approach;
  3. Develop an (institutional) framework for implementing the landscape approach for sustainable ecosystem services in the selected landscapes to enable cross-sectoral convergences and cooperation among stakeholders;
  4. Develop an awareness raising strategy and conduct three awareness workshops in each selected landscape for policy makers and relevant practitioners;
  5. Compile findings and experiences in a recommendation for implementing the landscape approach for the sustainable management of ecosystem services. Water resources are one of the priority ecosystem services to be included.

Job description:

  • Collection of primary and secondary data.
  • Supporting the Experts to prepare minutes of meetings during consultations and meetings with partners with stakeholders.
  • Support Experts during the awareness workshops.
  • Support experts to organize consultations with different stakeholders.
  • Travel to target districts (Kangra, Shimla, Dehradun, and Nainital) will be part of the field work.
  • Regular reporting to Team Leader.

Education:
University degree (graduates) in social science, natural sciences, environment science or related fields.

Country / regional experience:
India, preferably Western Himalayas

Languages:
Good language skills in Hindi and in English

Expertise / profile:

  • Some years of experience of working in (participatory) natural resource management, rural development projects.
  • Some years of experience in projects involving community based participatory planning.
