Description

Education and Literacy Lead

Type – Full time

Location- Burkina Faso

Reporting – Chief of Party

Introduction

Nascent Solutions, Inc., (Nascent) is seeking to recruit an Education and Literacy Lead to assist with overseeing a USAID program. The incumbent will preferably have experience within a developing country and expertise in managing USG funds. A successful candidate will also provide oversight into all aspects of education with management and technical leads to ensure compliance, effective implementation and coordination of education program activities.

The goal of the anticipated five-year Resilient Education for Crisis-Affected Children activity in Burkina Faso is to increase primary education completion, particularly for displaced and host community learners who have been marginalized due to conflict and crisis conditions, with improved foundational skills and wellbeing, even in the face of shocks and stressors. A disproportionate number of Burkinabe primary school-aged children are unable to complete their primary school education, nor receive quality instruction, and therefore struggle to acquire foundational skills. Insecurity, displacement and climate risks further exacerbate poor education conditions for both host community and displaced learners. This activity has been designed to support the Government of Burkina Faso’s Education Sector Plan (2017-2030).

Note: Position is contingent upon receipt of donor funding.

  • In partnership with appropriate technical staff, lead and oversee the development and implementation of an inclusive and gender-sensitive program
  • Safeguard the technical and operational completeness of activities, and in cooperation with the team and partners, ensure the design and rollout of education activities
  • Provide technical methodologies to accomplish program objectives that ensure the promotion of learning and the wellbeing of children.
  • Work in partnership with the various partners, donors and stakeholders to encourage sustainability, efficiency, and the adoption of successful program strategies
  • Provide technical and program guidance and oversight in the design and day-to-day operations and management of implementation.
  • Contribute to the collecting of appropriate research to support monitoring and evaluation initiatives for the education program activities.
  • Document and prepare quality, precise and timely reports, as required
  • Support the implementation of education and literacy program activities including designing annual workplans, coordination with Ministry of Education (MoE), local partners and donor agencies
  • Support the design and development of literacy curriculum materials, training manuals; support teacher professional development, school management committees, headteachers and school administrators
  • Liaise with various teams (administrators, teachers, grade-level) to facilitate analysis of data provided by diagnostics, common assessments, and formative assessments
  • Serve as a communication conduit for portfolio-related status, actions, decisions, risks and issues, and schedules for strategic initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, international development or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of knowledge with progressively increasing responsibility for the design, management and implementation of complicated education programming in developing countries encompassing several stakeholders and implementing partners.
  • At least three years of experience providing technical leadership on large-scale USAID-funded projects and designing and implementing education programming, preferably in West Africa.
  • Proven hands-on experience in building Ministry of Education (MOE) capacity to provide safe education prospects in formal and non-formal school settings.
  • Ability to work together and liaise with senior officials, other implementing partners, relevant education sector stakeholders, and senior members of the donor community.
  • Demonstrated track record overseeing a project team comprised of technical experts from diverse backgrounds and nurturing team work.
  • Ability to increase support from staff across teams and build up the capability of others.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and proven ability to lead
  • Ability and commitment to be particularly adaptable and accommodative in challenging operating environments.
