The Position:

Communication Support Officer is located in the UNFPA Cox's Bazar sub-office and reports to the Communication Analyst and Head of Sub Office, Cox’s Bazar (Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply).

Job Purpose:

The Communication Support Officer will support the Communications team in UNFPA Cox’s Bazar sub-office by undertaking all responsibility to ensure increased visibility of UNFPA’s Rohingya Response and Host Community and produce quality communications products and materials.

The incumbent will produce communications products by using exceptional writing in English, graphic design skills, photography, videography, and managing the overall quality of visual products produced at the Cox's Bazar office.

S/he will create compelling visual communications products through meeting, collecting stories and interviews that promote the work of UNFPA and highlight issues that UNFPA is advocating for in Cox’s Bazar. S/he will also assist in designing and finalizing regular products such as Sitrep, reports, fact sheets 

Major Activities/Expected Results:

Under supervision of the Communication Analyst, the key responsibilities of the Communication Support Officer entail the following:

Provides input in the development and supports the implementation of the Cox’s Bazar sub-office’s Advocacy and Communications strategy in line with the Regional communication strategy.
Assist in all kinds of photography and maintenance of an up-to-date photo bank of high-resolution images capturing UNFPA interventions in Cox’s Bazar.
Assist in the conceptualization, filming and editing of video content for the Sub-Office. Support vendors working on high-level audiovisual content with concept guidance, scripting and editing. Ensure branding and style compliance in the production of all audiovisual content.
Assisting in drafting, editing and proof-reading of all written materials, capturing key messages of UNFPA work in the sub-office, collating amendments from colleagues (including, but not limited to Donor reports, concept notes, fact sheets, press-releases, fliers, feature articles related to activities/events, human interest stories for website, social media posts and any other public information and advocacy materials during important days).
Preparing background communication and promotional materials for briefing and visits of media, high level UNFPA Cox’s Bazar staff, goodwill ambassadors, donors, and other of such visits. Assisting in the planning, logistics and administrative arrangements.
Coordinate with different project components, partner organizations and key stakeholders to collect and write success stories, feature articles, short report on project events.
Organising and generating support for special events and activities to promote humanitarian programme goals, including World Population Day, State of World Population report launch and annual UNFPA Award. Assisting in developing and maintaining close collaboration with mass media, as well as with groups and organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of advocacy and communication objectives.
Support Communication Team in organizing communications capacity building activities for staff and Implementing Partners.
Maintains/updates the Cox’s Bazar sub-office’s online communication channels, including the country office’s website as well as social media platforms; Organising and managing media archive. Mapping major media outlets and compiling a database of media lists and stakeholder contacts.
Maintaining media events calendar, ensuring timely preparation of promotional activities.
Negotiating and purchasing communication related series and materials, ensuring most cost effective options are explored. Following up on the production of advocacy and communication materials (e.g., films, videos, audio-visuals, etc.), and overseeing the qualitative aspects of production, (e.g., quality control, translations, reviews of layout, graphic design and printing.
Assisting in conducting of joint events and initiatives in collaboration with the UN Communications Group and ISCG.
In collaboration with the Communication member from the communication cluster of Cox’s Bazar, develop a group of practice with the aim of ensuring harmonized work on the promotion of UNFPA mission and objectives.
Assisting and participating in joint cluster (ISCG, Sub Sector and other UN agencies) initiatives.
Acts as a communications focal point in case of humanitarian emergency with the following roles:

o Leads the work of journalist/photographer (when applicable)
o Assists in drafting fast, interesting, high-quality and accurate articles and images from the ground. In particular, human interest stories
o Works with the CO and RO to disseminate content through social networks
o Participates in the work of the UN Communications Group;

Performs other relevant duties and assist with other communications tasks as required

Contribution to development and effective implementation of communication and advocacy strategy
Maintains relations with the media and communicate Cox’s Bazar sub-office’s positions and results through appropriate channels
Administration of UNFPA Cox’s Bazar sub-office’s web and social media content
Contribution to conceptualization and design of various promotional materials and human interest stories
UNFPA participation in Joint UN communications initiatives.

Impact of Results

The key results have an impact on efficient, effective, transparent and accountable implementation of the Communications strategy and its complementary efforts as well as reputation and perception of the UNFPA work.

Measurable outputs of the work assignment:

Highlight UNFPA’s work and branding through different communication channels and tools;
Regularly update web and social media content on UNFPA Bangladesh channels;
Distribution of various promotional materials and publications in support of strategic goals.

Performance Indicators for evaluation of results:

Increased visibility of UNFPA and implementation of communication strategy;
Web and social media content regularly updated;
Communications database, including portfolio of various components, regularly updated;

Public quality communications and donor visibility released in timely fashion. 

Qualifications and Experience: 

Education:  

University Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, Media Studies, Mass Communication, Visual, and/or a related subject.
  Knowledge and Experience: 

Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at the field of Communications and media. Experience working with international organization is highly preferable.
An understanding of the Rohingya political context, and experience working in the Rohingya context in Bangladesh is an advantage.
Excellent Photography and video production skills, including graphic design.
Excellent Web skills and prior experience of Social Media Management.
Excellent oral and written communications and editing skills in English.
Ability to speak Bangla, Chittagonian language or Rohingya would be a highly valuable asset;
Demonstrated team player in an international team environment.
UN common system experience, especially field experience, is desirable.

Languages: 

Fluency in oral and written English is a must.
Knowledge of Bangla and/or local language is an asset.
