Team Leader - Veterinary Expert

AESA Agriconsulting Europe is searching for a proficient veterinary/animal health Senior Expert for the role of Team Leader in our current EU-financed project entitled “ Health of Ethiopian Animals for Rural Development ”, a project of great impact on Ethiopian animal health and livestock sectors.

The Expert will be taking the Team Leader position in this project preferably at the end of August 2023, for a total of 189 working days.

The operational base for the project will be Addis Abeba

Time limit to for application: Feb 14 or ASAP

The ideal qualifications are the following:

General professional experience:

• University degree in veterinary medicine, Animal Science, agricultural economics, or equivalent.
• Post graduate degree in a relevant field of veterinary speciality (e.g. Veterinary Epidemiology, Veterinary Public Health, etc.) would be considered an asset;
• 15 years of relevant professional experience in developing countries, with experience in Sub-Saharan Africa and in particular in the Horn of Africa Region;
• 5 years as Team Leader in large programs/projects;
• Excellent analytical, communication and reporting skills including solid experience in field assessments and participatory data collection;
• Initiative, tact and proven ability to maintain harmonious working relationships in a multicultural setting and  multi-disciplinary team of experts;
• Proficiency in English and in the use of common word-processing and spread sheets;
• Profound knowledge of and experience with EU project cycle management, implementation of Grants and EDF rules and procedures;

Specific professional experience:

• Proven experience in public-private animal health services delivery systems, and the regulatory framework and epidemio-surveillance systems;
• Solid knowledge of capacity development challenges in public sector Agricultural/livestock sector institutions in Sub-Saharan African countries;
• In-depth knowledge of the value chain (production and trade) of live animals and their products;
• Solid proven professional experience in developing strategies, approaches, and tools for effective delivery of livestock services;
• Solid experience in undertaking desk literature reviews, analyses and syntheses for monitoring/evaluation and planning purposes;
• Knowledge of the policy environment of Ethiopia's livestock sector would be an asset.
• Involvement in recent similar projects in the Greater Horn of Africa region will be an asset.
