AZAHAR FOUNDATION EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

AZAHAR Foundation is a vibrant international community of people who promote a peace culture through yoga, meditation, the arts and supporting methodologies. AZAHAR is a nonprofit in the US (501©3), an association in Switzerland and a registered NGO in Cambodia. AZAHAR's pilot project is a Center for Peace, Yoga and the Arts in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. A smaller project is building momentum in Rwanda, and collaborations with potential are regular with AZAHAR scholarship recipients from Côte d'Ivoire and the Middle East.

AZAHAR is seeking a mission-driven Executive Director (ED) with experience in the nonprofit sector. The ED must be skilled in fundraising, as well as in designing and executing strategic plans with emphasis on exponential organizational growth. The ED reports to the Boards of Directors from three locations.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This full-time position is for immediate hire and reports to a supportive Board of Directors. This impactful leadership position is responsible for overseeing the strategy, fundraising, administration and programs of the organization.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Leadership and Organizational Management

● Provide thoughtful and creative executive leadership based on principles of inclusivity, transparency, and empowerment of staff and stakeholders.

● Guide the strategic planning for the foundation, ensuring the Board’s participation and approval.

● Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensure its overall long-term operations.

● Recruit, organize, motivate, and mentor team leaders to strategically grow the organization’s impact, programs, fundraising, and to effectively fulfill its mission.

● Optimize volunteering and ambassadorship placements to support the foundation’s mission.

Board Governance

● Ensure effective communication with the Board of Directors, fostering cohesiveness and supporting members with relevant and regular operational information for timely decision-making.

● Ensure board meetings are carried out according to required frequency, including preparatory documentation, updating on KPIs, finances and operational data.

● Advise on Board policies and procedures.

Development and Fundraising

● Develop an integrated Fundraising Program to drive development and fundraising in collaboration with advisors and fundraising ambassadors, leveraging the Board as needed.

● Cultivate relationships with the organization’s individual, corporate and institutional supporters, and broaden the portfolio of promoters and donors, making optimized use of Salesforce Nonprofit

Management software.

● Develop grant proposals to secure funding for operations and programs.

● Ensure the organization’s financial stability and sustainability and comply with fiscal and donor reporting requirements.

Financial Management and Administration

● Administer the annual budget with support from financial staff and with Board approval, within budget guidelines and documented according to applicable law and regulations.

● Ensure fiscal integrity and reporting, including oversight of financial management. Develop monthly financial reports for the Financial Committee’s review.

External Relations and Communications

● Amplify AZAHAR’s visibility to stakeholders, supporters and the public in person and online, aligned with the Foundation’s communications strategy.

● Develop annual reports with emphasis on impact and scalability as a fundraising and accountability tool to engage current and future stakeholders.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate for this role embraces socially conscious leadership as well as a thoughtful approach to day-to-day operational management, strategic planning, and organizational leadership. The qualified candidate should bring:

● Five years of senior management experience in the nonprofit sector. Additional experience in the for-profit is favorably considered.

● A master’s level education in social development, nonprofit management, MPA, MBA or similar fields; and/or experience in running nonprofit organizations related to the arts or healing arts. Years of such experience are considered towards the level of degree.

● High-level strategic thinking and planning. Communicative ability to convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers and donors.

● A track record of growing organizational capacity and programmatic impact.

● Self-driven preference with optimal time management skills.

● Stakeholder management ability, including funders, supporters, volunteers, and the community.

● Experience with project planning tools to establish measurable goals and performance indicators.

● Strong financial management skills. Experience in fiscal management as per US requirements.

● A history of generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.

● Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

● Ability to foster an environment of accountability, respectful work relationships and partnerships, and inclusivity among organizational staff to maintain a positive and collaborative work environment.

● Education, experience and/or interest in embodied practices such as yoga, meditation, music, performing and visual arts. Alignment with mission and principles of AZAHAR Foundation.

● Multilingual candidates preferred. The candidate will have excellent language proficiency in English.

Additional fluency in German, French, Spanish and/or Khmer a plus.

COMPENSATION

This opportunity offers the ability to make significant impact leading and growing an international nonprofit that is AZAHAR Foundation. The candidate will work from home in the New York City metropolitan area, with periodic in-person meetings with the President, Board Members, and donors in New York. Fixed compensation of $80,000 per annum.
