Description

SEGURA Consulting is a consortium partner on the Jordan Economic Reform Activity Task Order 1 (ERA) led by Chemonics. SEGURA is recruiting up to two (2) qualified International Business Advisors to facilitate exports of buildings design and urban planning services from Jordan to the United States. This assignment will be conducted primarily remotely but may include up to two trips to Jordan and/or the United States.

BACKGROUND

The Jordan Economic Reform Activity Task Order 1 (ERA TO1) is a 5-year, $54 million program funded by USAID that aims to support the Government of Jordan (GOJ) to prioritize and implement economic reforms. Among other activities, ERA is working with Jordan Exports (JE), Jordan’s export promotion agency, to connect priority export-competitive firms with potential buyers/partners based on market demand and product/service-market fit.

As part of this effort, we are seeking short-term consultants to help facilitate business-to-business (B2B) linkages between 1-2 Jordanian architecture, engineering, and planning firms, and potential U.S. partner firms. In collaboration with JE, the advisor will support the Jordanian firm(s) in preparing for and participating in B2B meetings with U.S. firms, while strengthening JE’s export support services to the architecture, engineering, and planning sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet virtually with Jordanian firm(s) and study company profile, services, and export history of firm(s) to help identify U.S. sub-market(s) and partners of interest
  • Communicate with U.S. architecture, engineering, construction, or planning firms and identify at least eight (8) companies interested in sourcing buildings design and/or urban planning services from Jordan
  • In consultation with Jordanian firm(s), JE, and Jordan’s Architecture/Engineering Business Council, organize relevant and timely business-to-business (B2B) meetings between Jordanian firm(s) and at least five (5) selected relevant U.S. firms (either individual meetings or appointments/presentations at industry event(s))
  • In coordination with JE and Architecture/Engineering Business Council, provide training and coaching to firm(s) on service positioning; pricing; marketing/promotion and event displays; business pitching and negotiation; U.S. technical requirements/standards; and other key aspects of doing business in the United States before, during, and after B2B meetings, as applicable
  • Following the meetings, assist Jordanian firm(s) in following up with interested U.S. firms, including through technical assistance to meet market requirements as well as negotiation advisory services
  • Strengthen capacity of JE to support engineering and planning firms in exporting services to the U.S. market, in accordance with U.S. and Jordanian industry regulations and standards
  • Help JE conduct awareness-raising session to pipeline of potential 5-8 firms in engineering and planning sector that may be interested in exporting to the U.S. market
  • Throughout the consultancy, transfer practical knowledge about U.S. market engagement to counterparts from JE and Architecture/Engineering Business Council

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, marketing, international trade, or another relevant field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction engineering or urban planning business development, marketing, and/or exports
  • Robust understanding of U.S. buildings design and/or urban planning market(s)
  • Deep network of relevant U.S. engineering and/or planning firms, and knowledge of how, where, and when to access them on behalf of interested partner firms
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-cultural environment
  • Strong project management, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Expertise in green buildings certifications preferred
  • Prior experience working under donor-funded project preferred
