Position: Bilingual Grant Development Specialist

Location: Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa preferred

Supervisor: Senior Manager, Philanthropy and Public Engagement

Position Type: Full-Time, permanent

Language: English and French

Travel: Infrequent travel within Canada

Salary Range: $65,385 to $76,196 with competitive benefits

We are looking for a passionate and strategic individual to be part of our growing team, a person who enjoys teamwork and celebrating wins, someone who is an expert writer and storyteller and who can apply that to help us raise vital funds for the women and girls we support. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing new philanthropic partnerships with foundation funders to effectively cultivate lasting relationships with Crossroads International in order to support raising a minimum of $1.5M annually.

Key responsibilities include research and relationship building with prospective funders, as well as writing of highly customized funding proposals and stewardship reports. Because of your outstanding qualities in donor relationship building, your character as a Gender Equality Champion and your abilities in facilitating large gifts from foundations, together we will leverage knowledge, expertise, and dollars to create a just and equitable world.

The ideal candidate will be personally aligned with Crossroads’ vision of ONE WORLD where poverty is eliminated, equality prevails, and the rights of women and girls are fulfilled.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

Develop a portfolio of foundation funders to achieve annual revenue targets. Assume primary responsibility for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of about 50 foundation partners, securing a minimum of $700K in grant donations annually.
Maintain and build relationships with current funders and prospects; coordinate foundation giving program including researching new funding opportunities.
Collaborate with program colleagues to develop and frame proposals that reflect Crossroads’ programmatic priorities that align with the focus areas of funders. This includes preparing concept notes, letters of intent, writing compelling grant proposals, online applications, and sending progress reports.
Prepare briefing notes, prospect profiles and call reports for funder meetings. All notes including insights from prospect research, emails, gifts, meeting outcomes and events which are entered into Raiser’s Edge in a timely and accurate fashion.
Oversee the grant portfolio timetable; manage all the timelines and deliverables; ensure next steps for each funder are scheduled. Maintain current files and correspondence related to each funder.
Update a library of grant support documents including board lists, bios, annual reports, etc.
Run queries and produce reports that reflect portfolio activity and progress towards goal achievement.
Research and write donor marketing and stewardship materials including presentations, prospect notes, articles, acknowledgement letters and web copy.
Occasionally serve as backup for donor administrative duties including response to donor inquiries and recording database entries.
Participate in monthly meetings for the Philanthropy and Public Engagement team and contribute to planning for initiatives to diversify and grow Crossroads’ donor base and to enhance donor engagement.
Act as the Privacy Officer working with leadership to ensure privacy policies and procedures are in place for the organization and educating staff on matters related to data protection and privacy; monitor incoming correspondence for privacy related emails.
Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO CROSSROADS

Post-secondary degree (BA) in relevant field or equivalent experience
Three years’ experience in proposal writing relevant to this position with proven success in securing grants
Demonstrated success in identifying and securing new philanthropic partnerships
Experience in prospect research, donor stewardship and donor management systems
Outstanding writing and editing skills, with experience in reviewing, editing and synthesizing project reports, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, articulating results and producing high quality donor communications
Experience designing project budgets and financial reporting for funders
French and English skills (verbal and written fluency required)
A desire for change, an eagerness for learning, ability to learn quickly and enthusiasm for a growing, adaptable work environment
Excellent project management, organizational, analytical and administrative skills and attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required, and experience with relational CRM databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred)
Resourcefulness, ability to work independently and as a member of a team in an energetic environment
Respect for a high level of confidentiality
Experience in international development a strong asset

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND ESSENTIAL CONDITIONS

Work an average of 35 hours per week, where some overtime may be required.
Travel in Canada may be required.
