Description

Responsible for growing FH’s grant portfolio in the region. Engage donors from the public and private sector, institutional donors with a specific but not exclusive focus on the US Government (USG). In partnership with business development and grant implementation teams at the country office, develop and execute a business development strategy for the regional portfolio, lead in identifying opportunities and partners that align to FH’s technical programming strengths. Support the bid management teams to submit complex, multi-year proposals through partner brokering, donor cultivation and writing where applicable. In collaboration with Business Intelligence & Analysis, research and prepare trends analyses of donor funding and project implementation while also influencing the funding strategies of key donors to align with FH regional programming priorities. Explore innovative approaches to business development (process, program, system) applying holistic, design thinking approaches where possible. Take responsibility for strategic initiatives that contribute to organizational goals. Manage bid managers and country office located business development managers where assigned.

Principal Responsibilities

Donor Cultivation

  • Network and build relationships with key decision makers within the US Government (USG) in country missions and in Washington DC.
  • In support of External Affairs, inform, influence, and shape USG programmatic solicitations (RFAs, RFPs, etc.) in Washington, DC, and USAID missions, using FH’s best practices & lessons learned.
  • In collaboration with FH’s Programs Team and country office technical staff, raise FH’s profile by representing FH at national, regional, and global donor events through presentations at major conferences, publishing papers, and networking.
  • Facilitate the development of strategic partnerships with INGOs, local NGOs, local and global private sector, and research partners.
  • Create opportunities for organizational engagement with donors, partners, and peers in-country and in Washington, DC to strengthen the FH brand, promote FH as a thought leader in both sector-specific and broader development approaches and improve donor perception.
  • In collaboration with the Director for Public Resource Innovation, strategize content for donor facing social media, websites, and publications in order to position FH to influence and lead in the industry.
  • Manage business intelligence information ensuring accessibility and utility across FH, especially related to positioning and proposal development, to include but not limited to, partner and contacts, capabilities, and strategic donor documents.

New Business Acquisition

  • Identify and cultivate new business opportunities to position FH to take advantage of a range of funding opportunities.
  • Track pipeline and prepare and assess country office grants targets.
  • Write, prepare, edit, proofread, and review proposals for submission where requested.
  • Develop and execute the country level grants business development strategy.
  • Contribute strategic guidance for proposal direction and design based on BD intelligence gathering.
  • In collaboration with the Business Intelligence unit, monitor and share information about new opportunities, donor-funding trends, and relevant funding information to country and regional teams.
  • Take ownership of organizational strategic initiatives as they relate to grants business development, revenue, and total award value targets.
  • Manage bid managers and country office located business development managers where assigned.

Job Level Specifications

  • Vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a Christian commitment to serving the poor and in full agreement with FH’s Christian beliefs.
  • Demonstrated computer-operating skills, including proficiency in Google platforms, Microsoft Office products, and virtual technologies such as Skype and/or Zoom.
  • Ability to write compelling proposals and donor facing technical branding briefs.
  • Compile and present reports and data sets to senior leadership.
  • Design and deliver capacity development interventions / training.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of time per year in the US and internationally, to insecure countries or locations.

Experience

  • At least 8 years of experience working in international development either with an implementing partner or donor.
  • At least 5 years working in a regional or country office, preferably in Latin America and/or Asia regions.
  • Demonstrable success in business development, grants acquisition, institutional fundraising, and programming approaches.
  • The ability to speak, read and write in Spanish is required.
  • Design and delivery of capacity development interventions / training packs to a broad stakeholder base.
  • Knowledge of one or more of FH’s technical areas is desirable.
  • At least 5 years managing teams with virtual management is an advantage.

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required or 10+ years of experience, 7 years of management with some education.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Membership of a professional body related to grants is desirable.
  • Certification in USAID proposal development or equivalent is desirable.

Language

Proficiency in spoken and written English. Working proficiency in Spanish is essential. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Directly supervises staff. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, resolving problems, etc.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to midpoint of the range, based on relevant experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
