Background
The External Relations and Communications Section (ERCS) builds and nurtures corporate donor relations, strategically leads the donor resource mobilization and conducts coherent communications efforts to highlight the value of volunteerism for peace and development and the contributions of UNV and UN Volunteers.
Reporting to the Communications Specialist, the Communications Analyst is responsible for leading the implementation of the social media strategy and management of corporate accounts for UNV, as well as for managing the visual assets (photo and video) through an online library and curation/production of photos and video, and building the capacity of the Communications Associates/Analysts in the Regional Offices in managing social media and visual assets.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement social media strategy of UNV and assist with the social media strategy for corporate and regional/NY office accounts
Develop and implement social media strategy for UNV by analyzing trends and past indicators;
Develop and implement social media strategy for regional and NY offices in-line with the UNV corporate social media strategy;
Post daily on UNV social media platforms according to agreed UNV branding and objectives, reaching out to new audiences and actively engaging with current audiences.
Provide social media support for missions, events and outreach for corporate communications.
Reply to public inquiries through social media, update FAQs and refer queries, comments and contributions for appropriate action; channel queries/comments/contributions to relevant staff members for processing.
Promote materials developed for special events and global campaigns through social media.
Integrate the social media strategy with other online and offline communications activities to ensure our social media content and channels support and enhance UNV's brand, vision and partnerships.
Produce bi-monthly social media plans, with clear indicators of content types/numbers to be implemented.
Provide quarterly data, monitoring and analytics of UNV social media platforms, including recommendations for traffic and performance enhancement.
Keep up-to-date with the work of all of HQ teams and Regional Offices, as well as the organization as a whole, in order to provide timely information to our audiences.
Participate in the UN Social Media group meetings to support systematic outreach to the UN system and other organizations to source content, cross-promote and identify possible joint online campaigns.
Support through social media outreach initiatives to raise visibility and media interest in the work of UNV and the contributions made by UN Volunteers.
2. Manage the visual assets (photo and video)
Manage UNV’s visual asset management system (ThirdLight or other), introducing improvements to the system on a regular basis.
Liaise with team colleagues, volunteers, partners and contractors to ensure adherence to agreed policies and timelines and get required approvals on assets before going public.
Guide staff on researching, tagging and importing visual assets into the visual asset management system.
Carry out regular visual audits of photographs and video and evaluate the needs in visual assets for UNV.
Based on best practices, prepare visual guidelines for photography and video.
3. Capacity building of the Communication functions of the Regional Offices in social media and visual assets management
Provide social media guidance to Regional Offices and review current Regional Offices’ social media presence.
Keep up to date with innovative multimedia content, identify relevant online and digital partnerships, and share corresponding guidance with Regional Office Communications Officers.
Create and carry-out training modules on visual assets, including the use of the visual asset management system.
Provide guidance to Regional Offices for procurement and selection of local photographers for photo and video missions.
Review and approve photos, video and multi-media assets coming from the Regional Offices or HQ consultants.
4. Manage processes for communications related procurement
Coordinate procurement needs and processes for communications tools and equipment.
Coordinate procurement of photography and video HQ assets.
Coordinate procurement related to International Volunteer Day (IVD).

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Master’s degree in a relevant subject area
Experience:
2 years’ experience in communications, public relations or advocacy, – including experience in strategic implementation of online and other tools;
Experience in content management systems, social media and graphic design;
Knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems.
Previous experience working in a multilateral or international organization is an asset.
Proficiency in the use of content management systems, HTML coding, photo editing tools and other web publishing tools;
Good knowledge of internet communications, marketing and outreach activities.
Fluency in English;
Working knowledge of an additional UN language is an advantage.
