Description

Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.

We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

Are you captivated by our innovative approach to peace, and do you want to contribute to the mission of our institute? Do you share our vision for a world where people live in safety and peace because conflicts and grievances are resolved through inclusive dialogue and lasting political agreements?

We are looking for a Political Advisor to support the team’s current projects in Southern Yemen within Engagement, Dialogue and Process Design (EDP) unit.

You will

  • Support the overall design and implementation of the Institute’s project in Yemen
  • Assist the programme team to develop and deliver strategies for engagement, in alignment with the project’s objectives, including by providing entry points to local stakeholders and other relevant individuals and organisations
  • Prepare and support missions of the Institute’s team to Yemen
  • Help conceptualise, convene and follow-up on dialogue facilitation efforts by the Institute
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of strong networks, liaising with local political and civil society actors – in coordination with the Institute’s team – to support the project’s objectives
  • Monitor local political and security developments and help the team develop its ongoing analysis of the situation in Yemen
  • Provide logistical and administrative support, as needed
  • Provide advice on other engagement and dialogue processes conducted by the Institute

Your skills and experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including engaging with diverse Yemeni political and civil society actors
  • The political advisor would ideally be based in southern Yemen and would be able and willing to travel within Yemen
  • Ability to work as part of a small team, operate effectively under pressure and comply with deadlines
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Perfect command of Arabic and English is necessary

The Service Provider has no authority to act as a diplomatic or legal representative of the Institute but may be called upon to represent the Institute regarding the planning and implementation of its activities in all necessary contacts with stakeholders in the field.
