Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.
We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

We are looking for a Senior Advisor to support the team’s current projects in Yemen within Engagement, Dialogue and Process Design (EDP) unit.
You will
- Support the overall design and implementation of the Institute’s Yemen project and the wider Middle East & Gulf programme
- Provide advice for the development of strategies for engagement and seek new opportunities for advancing the programme
- Facilitate high-level contacts and engagement, including by providing entry points to relevant decision-makers and non-state actors; by leading meetings with key partners, donors, and stakeholders; and by chairing policy discussions, roundtables, and potential track II meetings
- Support the Institute’s outreach strategy by engaging with key stakeholders, ranging from the international to the local level
- Engage in field missions to connect with conflict stakeholders as part of the design and implementation of the programme’s activities
- Strengthen relations with relevant European and EU (EEAS, Commission and Delegations) actors; UN officials (especially the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary General for Yemen [OSESGY]; the US Government and non-EU European states
- Identify concrete funding opportunities and partnerships in support of the Institute’s programme. Where useful and necessary, travel to capitals to provide in-person briefings and updates to (potential) donors
- Provide advice on other engagement and dialogue processes conducted by the Institute
- Other tasks at the request of the Programme Manager or the Institute’s EDP Unit Director
Your skills and experience
- Minimum 20 years of experience, 10 of which spent in the field of diplomacy, mediation, mediation-support, dialogue facilitation or conflict resolution
- Expert knowledge and understanding of the political and economic situation of Yemen and the wider Middle East and Gulf region; of the conflict contexts and geopolitical dynamics, diplomatic processes, and developments regarding regional and international policymaking
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and people skills with the ability to multitask and coordinate with colleagues in different locations and time zones
- Ability to work well under pressure and comply with tight deadlines
- Perfect command of English and Arabic is necessary
