Description

Counterpart is currently seeking a Human Rights and Technical Advocacy Lead who will help coordinate and facilitate the overall implementation of human rights activities and tasks administered by the Project. The Human Rights and Technical Advocacy Lead will assist the Human Rights Subject Matter Expert in the administrative coordination of activities implemented by the Project, involving an extensive liaison with civil society organizations. This position will report directly to the Chief of Party. This is a full-time position-based Bogota, Colombia. Local candidates are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the activities under the responsibility of the Human Rights Team; including participation in and note taking during meetings held with grantee organization representatives and follow up on the monitoring and fulfillment of agreed activities.
  • Monitor the Project´s daily operational activities, ensuring that technical tasks and activities are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Support the implementation of the Human Rights Team’s work plan and the development of other deliverables required by the Project; in close collaboration with the Capacity Strengthening Lead and Legal Advisor and other technical and administrative personnel of the Project.
  • Monitor the progress of sub-grants under the responsibility of the Human Rights Team and ensure close coordination with other Project staff members involved.
  • Support the Project´s Leadership team in reviewing, editing, and translating (as needed) Project reports; including, but not limited to, quarterly/annual work plans and reports, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Security Director and the Washington D.C. Director of Global Security to ensure the safety of partnered organizations and subrecipients in project implementation.
  • Manage and Mentor a Human Rights Advocacy Officer and Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in International Development, Social Sciences, Political Science, Governance and Civil Society and/or other related fields.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience at minimum supporting human rights focused projects, ideally for USAID and/or other international donors.
  • Knowledge and experience working with USAID-funded projects is required;
  • Highly organized with an attention to detail;
  • Familiarity with the use of operations software (i.e. Microsoft Suite applications, online meeting platforms such as Zoom or Teams, etc.);
  • Ability to establish priorities, as well as plan and organize individual work and team activities;
  • Strong organizational and follow up skills to meet strict Project deadlines;
  • Experience in and ability to establish good relationships with representatives from Human Rights NGOs;
  • Professional attitude and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information;
  • Strong sense of responsibility, punctuality and commitment;
  • Experience in Grant monitoring;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required;
  • Professional fluency in Spanish is required.
