Functional responsibilities
Project management
Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned project.; monitors and analyzes project implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties, including the district level task force established for the initiative; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
Coordinates activities related to project budget (progress reports and related documents/reports (work programme, implementation plans, programme budget, etc.).
Prepares Terms of Reference for project partners/consultants and oversees due hiring processes for delivery of project outputs as identified in the project agreement; and ensures delivery of outputs by partners/consultants, in accordance with the approved outputs;
Ensures the participation and involvement of relevant stakeholders in project activities so that the process is inclusive, participatory and transparent;
Ensures timeliness and quality of the outputs from partners/consultants
Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, including the task force, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
Undertakes outreach and communication activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.
Knowledge Management
Provides overall guidance to the Project and coordinates various knowledge products, dialogue platforms and technical support to the Steering Committee of the Initiative
Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
Leads and/or participates in field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, Government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.
Other tasks that may be required
Build strong relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
Liaise with national & global experts and agencies (Government, Non Govt, international organisations and other stakeholders as relevant, working on circularity/green economy,
Identify opportunities for upscale, replication of ideas, partnership and funding opportunities
Ensure participation and involvement of relevant stakeholders in programme -implementation so that the process is inclusive, participatory, and transparent.
Results expected
Develops, implements, evaluates, effective leadership and management of this project and teams; demonstrates timely delivery of outputs in accordance with overall objectives and policies. Plays a lead role in identifying significant issues and develops well-reasoned, innovative approaches to deal with these issues. Serves as an effective spokesperson internally and externally and forms strong partnerships with relevant parties.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education
Master’s in environmental sciences, development studies, or other relevant field of social sciences.
Work Experience
Essential: 5-6 years of relevant experience in project management in the field of environment/natural resource management/green economy and related areas.
Desirable: 10 years of work experience, with at least five years in project management in the field of environment. Previous experience of working with the government of India (national/local) and UN agencies is desirable.
Essential: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Microsoft.
Languages and other eligibility requirements
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Fluency in the local language of the duty station i.e. Hindi is required.
