Description

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Port Sudan, Sudan.

As Head of Programmes you will support the development of the multiannual country program and contribute to its implementation and monitoring in order to maximize Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Sudan's impact on the basis of WHH strategy and the relevant concept papers and according the WHH quality standards. Additionally, you will support the Country Director to develop and implement programs and projects and further develop the concept of WHH's intervention in Sudan.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute towards defination and orientation of the planned multiannual program strategy
  • Identify, examine and assess new project ideas as well as partners and ensure consideration of feasibility, sustainability and exit strategies in projects
  • Identify co-financing opportunities and negotiate with donors
  • Write quality proposals and reports for donor submission
  • Ensure compliance with WHH's quality standards, timely reporting (status and financial reports) 
  • Ensure monitoring and evaluation findings are incorporated into existing programs and projects
  • Identify lesson learnt from programs and projects and ensure networking on the best practice and lesson learnt with Head office
  • Control the implementation of projects and programs according to WHH quality standards, including the setup of an effective and participatory system, and supervision of use of funds and financial requirements
  • Develop and manage country programs, by assisting the Country Director in the development of needs-based and impact oriented country programs and annual planning
  • Monitor the Humanitarian situation in the country establishing surveillance systems, identifying early warning indicators and supporting the preparation of contingency and DRR plans
  • Represt WHH vis-a-vis national and international, governmental and non-governmental bodies as well as relief and development organizations

Your profile

  • A university or college degree in a relevant field like international relations, political science, program management or development cooperation/humanitarian aid
  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience managing NGO or UN operations in fragile and insecure locations
  • Sound understanding of compliance with legal requirements, including standard NGO and donor policies
  • Good management and organization skills even under heavy work pressure
  • Excellent staff capacity building and training skills
  • Readiness to follow and comply with fast changing security protocols and readiness to travel to project locations (based on security situation)
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in WHH's program countries
  • Strong communication skills with excellent spoken and written English; Arabic language skills would be an advantage
