Veterinary Epidemiologist - Data Integration Department

Missions and activities  

Contribute to the implementation of the WOAH epidemic intelligence framework, in close collaboration with other colleagues from the EISA team
• Provide support to further develop the WOAH epidemic intelligence framework and to coordinate its implementation between relevant actors;
• Implement the framework either by leading or supporting colleagues in relevant activities as distributed in the work plan;
• Conduct analysis and prepare reports based on epidemic intelligence data;
• Contribute to the design and implementation of a monitoring and evaluation approach to assess and follow the implementation of the epidemic intelligence framework.

Conduct epidemiological analysis and provide transversal support on epidemiology  
• Contribute to develop scientific reports based on the data and analysis targeting national health authorities to diffuse animal health information and support decision making;
• Act as WOAH technical coordination contact person for specific projects, and specifically the following two managed externally via sub-grant
-> A risk-based surveillance programme for zoonotic coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2 at the human-domestic-wildlife interface;
-> A training programme / capacity building on One Health surveillance, risk analysis and response to SARS-CoV-2 and other health risk at the human-animal-wildlife interface;
• Propose analyses to support WOAH activities;
• Support and mentor WOAH staff in developing epidemiological analyses, when relevant;
• Contribute to writing scientific papers, for publication in peer-reviewed journals, in collaboration with partner institutions;
• Collaborate with WOAH’s partner institutions for data provision and scientific collaboration.

Contribute to the data integration efforts of the department
• The veterinary epidemiologist may be asked to contribute to other tasks of the Data Integration Department, as relevant.

Qualifications and Experience

Required qualifications
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine;
• Master’s degree in epidemiology, statistics or public health;
• 5 years of professional experience, including 2 years in managing and analysing datasets related to epidemic intelligence activities;
• Experience in management of databases or information systems.
Additional experience
• Additional degree in aquatic and/or terrestrial animal health, epidemiology or public health;
• Work experience with the National official health services;
• Work experience with disease surveillance or control programmes
• Experience in project coordination, monitoring and evaluation would be an asset.

Requirements:
Technical skills
• Excellent epidemiological analysis skills;
• Excellent data management skills;
• Excellent command of English, both oral and written;
• Very good command of the Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
• Good computer skills, especially in geographical information systems (e.g. QGis), database management systems, business intelligence platform (e.g. as Power BI), programming language and environment for statistical computing and graphics (e.g. R).
Additional competencies
• Good knowledge of a second WOAH official language (French or Spanish).
