GRC is seeking a consultant to join its team as a Senior Investigative Analyst for the project titled “Advancing International Accountability for Atrocities through Evidence Analysis”.

The main goal of the project is to support beneficiaries in Duhok to integrate international law standards in efforts to deal with international crimes and to organise, process and mobilise evidence of international crimes.

Duty Station: Duhok, Iraq (Office based)

Contract Duration: Until 31st December with possible extension dependent on project confirmation.

Full / Part Time: Approx 70% / 15 days per month

The Role

• Review and analyse evidential holdings, including with an eye to illuminating patterns of criminality and identifying likely perpetrators.
• Identify and select evidence around which the most promising case files may be built.
• Identify gaps in information/evidence and provide specific search guidance to a team of analysts.
• Engage in open source investigation to identify information of potential value to building case files.
• Draft “case files”, with drafts to be submitted for peer review to the Senior Analyst and Project Lead.
• Act as mentor in case-building/analysis, including open-source research, to a team of analysts, also identifying training needs.
• Assist in the preparation and organisation of training programmes.
• Assist in identifying suitable candidates for training on identified needs that are beyond the scope of the Consultant’s own expertise.
• Perform any other tasks reasonably within the identified scope of work, where requested.

Your Background

• Practical legal and/or analytical experience in the field of international criminal law.
• Experience in international criminal analysis.
• Strong and demonstrable research, drafting and analytical skills.
• Respect for absolute confidentiality.
• Exceptional organisational and time management skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness and ability to work from an office in Duhok.
• Experience in the field of international criminal law is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of and/or experience working in the Iraqi context is strongly preferred.
• Practical experience working within international tribunals, international legal accountability mechanisms of accountability-focused non-governmental organisation is preferred.
• Experience in delivering training and mentorship is preferred.
• Arabic fluency (reading, writing, speaking) and strong working knowledge of English.
• Knowledge of Kurdish is preferred
