Position Description

EnCompass LLC is seeking an Events and Convenings Manager (Program Manager I) to serve as the technical and management focal point for Objective 2 of the USAID-funded Generating Results in Our Work and Thought leadership (GROWTH) project. Through GROWTH, EnCompass LLC supports USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG Bureau) to strengthen the capacity of its staff to design and deliver high-quality learning events, facilitate learning exchange, and serve as thought leaders in the DRG community. The Events and Convenings Manager leads and implements GROWTH’s Outreach and Convening workstream, Objective 2, provides day to day management of both service areas; ensures the application of high-quality standards for retreats, meetings, conferences (both in- person and virtual), serves as the Activity Manager for specific convenings and as a producer as needed, contributes to convening design, and manages the DRG Bureau’s contact lists. The Events and Convenings Manager works with the DRG Bureau Staff and the GROWTH Team to develop marketing and communication materials, as needed, ensuring the DRG Bureau reaches a broader audience, especially outside USAID.

This is a full-time position located at the EnCompass principal office in Silver Spring, Maryland, and follows the EnCompass flexible hybrid work model with split time between telework and the office. This individual may also be expected to work from client sites in the Washington, DC metro area, as needed.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions:

  • Leads all aspects of planning and managing convenings including securing a site or platform, inviting and communicating with USAID stakeholders and participants, monitoring RSVPs, designing the agenda, preparing materials and coordinating all logistics before, during and after the activity.
  • Generates reports on analytics for engagement, mailing list/audience growth, in coordination with other workstream leads
  • Manages the DRG Bureau’s contact lists by periodically updating the lists with new contacts from trainings, retreats, meetings, conferences etc.
  • Works with GROWTH’s facilitators and USAID subject-matter experts to explore ideas, determine objectives and intended outcomes
  • Contributes to development of dynamic, experiential learning and participant engagement session designs including macro and micro designs based on client content
  • Facilitates meetings, retreats, and other learning sessions for a variety of clients, including international organizations, U.S. government agencies, and private and public-sector organizations
  • Prepares after action reviews and reports and share information with clients
  • Contributes expertise and innovative methodologies and approaches to reaching broader audiences
  • Develops and maintains positive and productive relationships with all project stakeholders
  • Works effectively with GROWTH team members, embraces participatory approaches and builds team capacity
  • Works with GROWTH team to identify opportunities for integrating innovative uses of technology in events and convenings
  • Works with GROWTH team to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in all event and convening design
  • Serves as a resource to Business Development teams by contributing to proposal development processes to include developing LOE estimates and writing technical approaches
  • Supports communications and logistics for EnCompass clients, as needed
  • Engages fully as a member of the EnCompass staff team, including participating in staff meetings and other EnCompass activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Qualifications

Academic Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School diploma and 10 years of relevant experience; or Associate’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience; Bachelor’s Degree and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master’s Degree and 4 years of relevant experience Degree in Training, Evaluation, Adult Education, Instructional Design, International Communication, International Development, Organizational Development, or a related field.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience designing, facilitating and managing interactive learning experiences using blended learning and innovative technologies
  • Experience in event management, production, and face-to-face facilitation, ideally for U.S government and/or UN agencies
  • Appreciation for the role of DEI practices in event design
  • Adept at identifying and framing problems, setting priorities, and making critical assessments
  • Exceptional presentation, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills with a dynamic, engaging facilitation style
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications like Google Meet; Zoom; Adobe Connect; WebEx; as well as the Microsoft Office suite
  • Able to confidently engage with staff at all levels to define needs and expectations, collaborate on projects, and communicate results
  • Experience in the field of international development, working in cross-cultural environments
  • Ability to work in an environment committed to appreciative, strengths-based approaches
  • Highly organized and familiar with strong knowledge management practices
  • Commitment to providing the highest level of service
  • Ability to travel, including internationally, may be required for some assignment
  • Experience Producing high quality events, webinars, virtual trainings, etc for USAID or similar clients and managing technically advanced virtual environments (preferred)
  • Knowledge of critical principles including adult learning, participatory methods, instructional design, Appreciative Inquiry, whole systems thinking, and related topics (preferred)

Estimated Pay Range for this Position

The pay range for this role allows for the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. At EnCompass, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current pay range is $74,500 - $80,000.
