Save the Children is the world's leading independent organisation for children. We save children's lives; we fight for their rights; we help them fulfil their potential.
We work in more than 120 countries around the world. In 2014, we reached more than 55 million children directly through our work and our partners.
In April 2014, fighting broke out between armed groups and government forces in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine. As the conflict intensified and spread, children and their families were forced to flee their homes. The conflict has so far affected 5 million children and adults.
Save the Children launched a direct emergency response in Ukraine as a result of the conflict in 2014. We now have a team of more than 80 people delivering programs in three main locations.
We are delivering essential humanitarian aid including hygiene kits, shelter materials, heating items and warm clothes. We're also providing cash grants to families so they can buy urgent items such as medicine and food.
Our specialist teams are helping children access education and are also setting up centres to help children overcome their experiences through psychosocial support and play therapy.
