Disaster Risk Reduction Expert (Island Environment)

TDS-Group is a consultancy firm specialising in international consultancy and technical assistance to public and private players operating in crisis, post-crisis and developing countries. The firm specialises in :

• The production of strategic knowledge on the institutional, political and socio-economic environment of developing countries ;
• Evaluating public policies, aid programmes and publicly funded field projects ;
• Technical assistance to organisations that commission, manage and use evaluation ;
• Defining and implementing development strategies for operators in emerging countries ;
• Technical assistance at every stage of the project cycle, from risk and needs assessment to final evaluation and impact assessment.

TDS-GROUP is looking for a Disaster Risk Reduction expert with strong experience in tropical and/or island environments.

The expert will support the team for a period of six months, with an estimated total of 30-35 days of work on the following tasks:

- Preparation and development of the overall methodology aimed at strengthening residents\' response capacities and preparedness for fire and emergencies
- Conducting participatory community vulnerability assessment workshops
Development of community disaster risk reduction plans
- Monitoring DRR

Skills required:
→ Advanced degree in disaster risk reduction, urban planning or related field ;
→ At least five years\' experience in disaster risk reduction, including field experience working with poor urban communities ;
→ Proven experience in tropical and/or island environments, preferably in Asia ;
→ Demonstrated experience in developing disaster risk reduction strategies and plans, community contingency plans and references ;
→ Knowledge and/or experience of participatory community vulnerability assessment will be a major asset ;
→ Strong analytical and report-writing skills ;
→ Excellent facilitation and communication skills ;
→ Experience of participatory approaches ;
→ Good knowledge of written and spoken English, French is an asset ;
→ Authority and composure in complex situations, to avoid and manage delicate situations such as fraud.
→ Experience of working in the field (security-related) ;
→ High capacity for work and stress management ;
→ Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work as part of a globally distributed team.

Remote consultancy with occasional field assignments in Asia.
Remuneration commensurate with experience.
