The Health Practice is recruiting an Evidence Utilisation Associate to join our research, monitoring, and evaluation team. This senior-level position will identify evidence gaps, synthesis information and coordinate efforts to increase evidence utilisation. Experience is required in research design, execution, management, analysis, reporting and stakeholder coordination for research utilisation.Our team has grown rapidly over the last five years and is spread across multiple countries in Africa and elsewhere. Some of our clients include: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UNAIDS and USAID.

The Health Practice in which this position falls focuses on building healthier lives for African populations. We do this through our focus on our three main service lines:

  • Research, monitoring and evaluation (RM&E)
  • Health financing and economics (HFE)
  • Extensive programme implementation support (PIMS)

Role Description:

This role will ensure that evidence and research are effectively translated, disseminated and used by relevant stakeholders. This includes policymakers, program planners, academics, and the general public to inform evidence-based decision-making.

The role is pivotal in strengthening our evidence utilisation methodologies and capabilities. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience bridging the gap between evidence and action.

The candidate should have experience in evidence gap mapping, stakeholder coordination, evidence synthesis and utilisation.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis and Synthensis: Lead in collecting, analysing, synthesizing, and reporting high-quality qualitative data. Demonstrated proficiency in using qualitative analysis software such as Atlas.ti, Dedoose, NVivo, or similar platforms is essential for effective data management and analysis.
  • Evidence Translation: Translate evidence and research findings into accessible formats (policy briefs, infographics, presentations) suitable for various audiences.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in policy, academia, and the industry to promote the utilisation of evidence findings.
  • Dissemination: Coordinate and carry out the dissemination of research products and findings through multiple channels (e.g., workshops, webinars, social media, and emails).
  • Capacity Building: Contribute to capacity-building efforts to enhance stakeholders' understanding and utilisation of evidence
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Track and report on utilising evidence findings and their impact on decision-making processes.
  • New Business Development: Contribute to new business development with a focus on research and evidence components.
  • Industry Updates: Keep up with the latest trends in research and evidence use.
  • Writing and Presentation Skills: Demonstrate excellence in writing and presenting by publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, and crafting conference materials. Ensure outputs are publication-ready for prestigious venues.
  • Project Documents: Prepare clear and structured project documents and proposals with MS Word and PowerPoint.

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Strong academic background – Minimum of a Postgraduate degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Anthropology, Sociology, or a related field. Master’s Degree is desirable.
  • 4 - 5 years of experience in management consulting or relevant public health research and evaluation
  • Expertise in research and evaluation design
  • Expertise in research and evaluation methodologies, including contribution analysis, outcome harvesting and the most significant change approach
  • Relevant experience includes public health research, evaluation, learning, knowledge management, health systems strengthening, AGYW, HIV prevention, SRHR, and behavioural sciences (SBCC) is desirable.
  • Entrepreneurial in nature- proactive self-starter who can be assertive. A confident networker with solid relationship management skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multicultural team - build teams and foster collaboration to achieve project goals, meet milestones and produce high-quality deliverables
  • High level of organisation, attention to detail, professionalism and reliability.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage work in a fast-paced environment across multiple projects and work streams with competing time/ resource demands
  • Proficiency in qualitative data analysis software (e.g., Dedoose, Atlas Ti)
  • Adept at responding to Request for Proposals (RFPs) or Terms of Reference(TORs)
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English.
  • Experience in research/evaluations for organisations like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Global Fund, and UN organisations will be advantageous.
