Description

Evaluation Team Leader (5 days p/m, 24 months+)

Closes: 16 August 2024

Summary

The Humanitarian Impact Institute (HII) is an Irish organisation delivering some of the most impactful and valuable evaluations in our sector. We have an incredible team with expertise in a range of sectors, working mostly in Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Syria, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan. We also have a mission to make evaluations more inclusive and for them to drive real change in programming. As part of this, we have delivered more localisation evaluations in the past 18 months than any other firm. As our reputation and impact continues to grow, we are seeking talented and motivated leaders in evaluations to join our teams for 5 days per month on a long term basis. In this role you will be providing high level analytical insight and value to our evaluation teams.

You will be working across our practices delivering a variety of evaluation projects for international donors and INGOs. This is a remotely based role for a dynamic and enthusiastic person with 10+ years evaluation experience.

The Role

HII and the HRDP practice are dedicated to increasing the impact of humanitarian and emergency responses, as well as development programs globally. This is a senior role that will add analytical firepower and credibility to our evaluations. HII has multiple evaluation teams (including evaluation managers, analysts, field teams, project officers and QA Directors) that each manage a number of projects at any one time. These teams deliver excellent work and will support you in adding high level analytical insights into reports and client presentations.

The role involves supporting project teams to deliver 2-4 projects (all spread between inception to dissemination stages) by providing high level analytical insights at each stage:

  • Inception - Contribution to the team's initial document review, evaluation evidence matrix, evaluation design, tool design and inception report;
  • Analysis - Oversight of the team's triangulated analysis, evidence matrix and initial findings;
  • Report Production - Advising the team on the flow and presentation of report findings and contributing additional impactful analysis, insights and writing based on the evaluation evidence (taking the report from a 70% to a 95% quality);
  • Dissemination - Preparing the team for, and then facilitating, findings and recommendations workshops with clients so that the findings and recommendations add value to the client and their programs;
  • Provide Expertise - Support the project teams by answering evaluation implementation questions as needed;
  • Client Value - Contributing to building lasting client relationships on projects you support; and
  • Quality Indicators - Ensuring all evaluation products and designs are intersectional, conflict, disability and gender sensitive.
To be clear, this role is not administratively responsible for ensuring the evaluation is delivered to time, quality and budget, nor is it responsible for data collection or administration - our experienced project teams are responsible for all of this. Instead, this role adds higher-level analytical insights and credibility to the evaluation through the above contributions. To achieve this within HII, these roles contribute approximately 2 days per month to each project on average.

Requirements

To do well in this role, the ideal candidate will have the experience, capability and knowledge to identify higher level insights from data with ease, and then turn this into well written and simple text.

We believe that means the minimum requirements are:
  • Have been delivering performance and/or impact evaluations with a variety of methodologies for at least 10 years
  • Have been leading evaluations as a named Team Leader for at least 8 years
  • Exceptional English writing skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas and data in simple language
  • A disposition to work as part of a team and demonstrates a consistently supportive and optimistic attitude
  • Has credibility as an evaluator
  • Your academic qualifications reflect your experience and the needs of this role

Benefits

Please state your expected day rate for this role (in the form on the next page), based on a 5 day per month time commitment over an extended period. Ideally we want you to keep working with us in this role for at least 2 years, with those 5 days guaranteed during that time.

The 5 days each month will change so the role will suit someone with flexibility in their schedule.

We also think we're great to work with so if you like feeling like part of a team then we'd love to hear from you.
