The Solar division of JGH Group is specialized in designing, supplying, and installing solar power systems in remote locations all over the world. They work with public tenders for solar PV projects in developing countries, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, South America and Oceania, funded by development agencies.

The position

The Renewable Energy Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager and will be involved in the projects from early pre-tender analysis and design over delivery planning to actual implementation and commissioning on site.

The typical tasks include:

  • Analysis of technical tender documents
  • System design of solar-focused projects i.e., solar PV, hybrid etc.
  • Sourcing of equipment and components
  • Preparation of Bills of Materials (BOM)Ensure compliance with standardsTechnical documentation: technical drawings, technical descriptions, manuals, checklists, …
  • Complete electrical calculations such as but not limited to cable sizing/voltage drop etc.
  • Dealing with technical queries from clients, users, installers, and manufacturers
  • Guidance of installation teams (remotely and on-site)
  • Travel to the site for system commissioning as needed
  • Preparation of As-built drawings
  • Training and maintenance plans
  • Eventually manage your own projects, from bid submission to commissioning (turnkey)Proactive contribution to support supply chain management, procurement process, and supplier verification

The traveling activity is mostly to Africa and is expected to be 30 - 45 days annually.

The ideal candidate

You are an EU citizen holding or eligible for a work permit within the EU countries..

You have an engineering background, within Electrical or Energy Engineering, and you have a minimum 1 year of work experience.

To be efficient in the role, you must master MS Office / MS Excel at an advanced level, and you must have experience using AutoCAD or similar CAD software. It is a plus if you have experience in solar energy software like (PVSyst, Helioscope or PVSol).

Aside from full working proficiency in English verbal and written, it would be an advantage if you master other languages like French or Spanish.


You are well-organized with strong attention to detail as required to plan and manage projects successfully, and you might even have some project management experience.

Furthermore, you are robust, a team player, accountable and able to work independently and as part of a team, taking a high level of accountability with a problem-solving mindset.

You are expected to be prepared for travel activity to remote sites, if needed.
