Position Location: Southeast Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Timor Leste, Thailand, or Vietnam) 
 
 
SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT 
The Southeast Asia Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention Platform is a pivotal initiative supported by a AUD20 million investment from the Australian Government over five years (2024 to 2029). The Platform aims to enhance GBV prevention efforts across Southeast Asia by fostering collaboration among governments, civil society organisations, international bodies, and other stakeholders. We are guided by the principles of being locally driven, evidence-based, inclusive and diverse, survivor-centred and trauma informed, adaptable, collaborative, minimising harm, accessible and innovative. We seek to build capacity, amplify evidence, and innovate in the prevention of GBV.  
 
 
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION 
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Demonstrate Team Lead to develop and implement the Platform’s strategy for ensuring that evidence on effective GBV prevention in Southeast Asia is accessible and utilised by practitioners and policymakers. This role involves synthesising existing evidence, elevating practice-based knowledge, and generating new insights through the Platform’s activities. 
 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  
As the Demonstrate Team Lead you will: 

  • Provide oversight of and lead the Demonstrate workstream and ensure alignment with program principles and objectives, including chairing meetings, setting work plans, and ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery. 
  • Identify, review, and synthesise existing research on effective GBV prevention in Southeast Asia. 
  • Translate international best practices to the regional context, including addressing cross-cutting issues such as climate change and disability equity. 
  • Document and disseminate best practices and evidence from the Platform’s work to regional and global audiences. 
  • Develop accessible capacity-strengthening tools and resources in multiple languages and accessible formats. 
  • Facilitate peer learning opportunities and support learning exchanges between Southeast Asian, Australian and global GBV prevention actors. 
  • Connect practitioners with external researchers and evaluators, leveraging partnerships with organisations like the Australian Research Council’s Centre for Excellence on the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW). 
  • Integrate cross-cutting issues including disability inclusion, gender equality and climate change across workstream activities and initiatives. 
  • Lead and oversee the creation of communication products related to the Demonstrate workstream, including lessons learned, case studies, and stories of change. 
  • Collaborate with Platform team members to ensure coordination and collaboration across workstreams and avoid duplication. 
  • Participate in annual work planning and contribute to progress reporting. 
  • Provide updates and reports to the Steering Committee and Platform Regional Director. 
  • Oversee and lead the recruitment, management and mentorship of Demonstrate Project Officers and other staff, including ensuring effective task delegation and a supportive and inclusive work environment. 
  • Address risk management and ensure the ethical delivery of Platform activities in accordance with DFAT policies, safeguards and frameworks. 

 
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS 
Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, social science, international development, business administration, or a related field. A post-graduate degree in a related field is preferred but not essential.  

Minimum Experience: 
Our ideal candidate will have the following: 

  • Strong dedication to preventing gender-based violence (GBV) and understanding of women’s  movements and the importance of their role in GBV prevention in Southeast Asia. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to adhere to safeguarding policies, child protection, and the protection of vulnerable groups. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, social science, international development, business administration, or a related field. A post-graduate degree in a related field is desirable but not essential. 
  • Experience managing and implementing research and knowledge management programs in Southeast Asia. 
  • At least 5 years’ experience in research and knowledge management related to gender equality. Experience in GBV and GBV prevention research and knowledge management advantageous.  
  • Proven expertise in developing and implementing successful information dissemination and research uptake strategies at regional and ideally global levels. 
  • Experience synthesising and disseminating evidence and practice-based knowledge on GBV, including through policy analysis, program evaluation and data synthesis.  
  • Established networks and relationships with relevant civil society organisations (CSOs), women’s rights organisations (WROs), organisations of persons with a disability (OPDs) and other relevant networks in the region. 
  • Proven experience managing multiple partnerships and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships with a range of diverse stakeholders. 
  • Experience with a risk-based approach to program or organizational management, including undertaking and implementing risk assessments and mitigation strategies. 

Essential Skills: 

  • Experience and ability to manage multi-cultural and diverse teams with a focus on inclusive and supportive work environments and coordinating work across different individuals and workstreams efficiently. 
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey concepts clearly and concisely.  

Language Proficiency: 

  • Proficiency in English and at least one Southeast Asian language, both written and oral.
