SUMMARY OF THE POSITION 
Cowater is currently seeking an experienced Project Coordinator for a proposal we are developing for Global Affairs Canada’s Field Support Services Project (FSSP) in Tanzania. Candidates must be fluent in English and will be currently based in or willing to relocate to Dar es Salaam at their own expense. 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Supporting the Project Manager in procurement services of goods and services, including the procurement of locally-engaged subject matter experts (SMEs).  
  • Providing ongoing information and advice on local issues including the socioeconomic context and their potential impact on the project.  
  • Preparing key project documents including operating procedures manuals, narrative reports, annual work plans and financial reports.  
  • Communicating project updates and status of deliverables with a wide variety of stakeholders.  
  • Coordinating logistics for events, trainings and conferences including booking accommodations, transportation, utilities, and arranging for permits, visas, and other official documents.  
  • Supporting the Project Manager in analyzing, planning, directing and assessing the administrative tasks to be carried out by Technical Specialists, including timely submission of deliverables, adherence to basic professional requirements and alignment with activity specifications. 
  • Supporting the administration of contracts coordinated by the Project Manager. 

Education: 

  • Advanced (post-graduate) degree in political sciences, law, international development, economics, finance, business administration, project management, social sciences, engineering or applied sciences. A copy of the stated proof of education MUST be provided. 

 Minimum Experience: 

  • Previous project coordination experience (6 or more years preferred) of supporting international development programming including administration, logistics, and finance.  
  • Experience managing a minimum of two international development projects (with a minimum duration of 3 years) with a project value of over $2,000,000 CAD per project; 
  • Experience working with international development stakeholders including donors (such as GAC, USAID, FCDO), and national government representatives or regional stakeholders; 
  • Proven experience preparing key project documents including annual workplans, narrative financial and administrative reports. 
  • Significant experience working in international development in Tanzania and the wider region; 
  • Experience in researching, locating background information, analyzing, extracting relevant information and writing summaries;  
  • Demonstrated experience planning and coordinating administrative and logistics services; 
  • Experience supporting the implementation of project activities, monitoring results, coordinating project reviews/lessons learned and dealing with project issues and challenges as they arise.  

 
Language Proficiency An advanced working proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking) is required. Proficiency in Swahili is an asset. 
 
Employment Conditions Candidates must be able to live and work in the project country. The ideal candidate will already be living in/based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
