For our Operational support to the FLEGT VPA Secretariat project in Guyana we are looking for a Forest Monitoring Expert that will play a pivotal role in ensuring the comprehensive implementation of the revised Forest Monitoring Division (FMD) Manual of Procedures (MoP). This position demands a proactive individual dedicated to maintaining and enhancing forest management standards through meticulous procedure updates, staff training, and interdepartmental collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manual of Procedures (MoP) Management:

    • Regularly update the MoP to reflect current best practices and regulatory changes.
    • Ensure all revisions align with national and international forest monitoring guidelines.
  • Staff Training and Support:

    • Develop and conduct comprehensive training programs on the revised MoP for FMD staff.
    • Provide ongoing support to ensure adherence to updated procedures.
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Implementation:

    • Oversee the execution of the revised SOPs/MoPs within the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC).
    • Organize and facilitate relevant training sessions to ensure compliance.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration:

    • Liaise with department heads to identify challenges and specific needs.
    • Develop tailored solutions to address identified issues effectively.
  • Compliance and Reporting:

    • Monitor and report any inconsistencies between SOPs/MoPs and the Forest Act 2009.
    • Recommend necessary updates to SOPs/MoPs to maintain compliance.
  • Field Assessments:

    • Conduct field assessments at various stations to ensure proper implementation of MoPs and SOPs.
    • Evaluate and strengthen data flow and processing links between departments regarding compliance information.
  • Stakeholder Coordination:

    • Organize and conduct meetings and events as required.
    • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
  • Reporting and Documentation:

    • Prepare reports and attend meetings to provide progress updates.
    • Handle routine and project-related correspondence promptly.
  • Financial Assistance:

    • Assist the GFC in budget formulation.
    • Prepare expenditure statements as needed.

Expected Outputs and Deliverables

  • Successful implementation of the revised SOPs/MoPs within the GFC.
  • Completion of relevant training programs for staff.
  • Regular reports highlighting any inconsistencies with SOPs/MoPs and the Forest Act 2009.
