Global Rights Compliance, founded in 2013, is an international human rights law foundation specialising in international humanitarian law, international criminal law and business human rights. Global Rights Compliance’s mission is to provide justice through the innovative application of international law. We operate in conflict-affected and high-risk areas around the world in over 45 countries.

With our main office in Kyiv, Ukraine, GRC is part of the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group (ACA) initiated by the US, the EU, and the UK, to assist and facilitate Ukrainian law enforcement agencies in investigating and prosecuting international crimes. Special expert groups known as Mobile Justice Teams (MJTs) are composed of legal specialists and operate in both Kyiv and the regions to provide strategic advice and operational assistance to Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) in the investigation and prosecution of atrocity crimes in Ukraine.

Our legal specialists work closely with investigators and prosecutors to provide support in prosecuting international crimes, advising and assisting in the documentation, investigation, and prosecution.

GRC team members operate in senior roles as Prosecutors, Investigators, Lawyers and Legal Advisors leading and supporting major investigations and building prosecution cases with national prosecuting agencies on a global basis.

We are seeking a Project Director to join our international team. The Forced Labour Project Director will focus on the delivery of our flagship forced labour project. This is a management role within an innovative team to work on impactful human and labour rights projects related to forced labour. The Project Director will be responsible for providing supervision and guidance to the team in the delivery of GRC’s project; ensuring activities are successfully delivered in accordance with timelines; the delegation of tasks to GRC’s team members; sign-off on GRC’s project activities and the delivery of the project in accordance with the agreed upon methodology.

Duty Station: Remote.

Contract Duration: 12 Months with possibility of extension.

The Role

• Provide subject matter expertise: Provide subject matter expertise on forced labour workstreams including meetings with external stakeholders, including representatives from government and companies.
• Project Management: Coordinate the project including liaison with the Finance, HR, M&E and Communications Team and oversee the project for a smooth implementation.
• Team management: Manage the project team to ensure efficient working streams and timely completion of project deliverables; provide mentorship and support to team members, offering guidance to enable them to perform to their full potential; actively participate in team brainstorming sessions on project implementation strategies; identify emerging talent and work with them to reach their full potential, ensuring they are developed and given new areas of responsibility.

Your Background

• 7 or more years of experience, with in-depth knowledge in business and human rights and specific experience in addressing forced labour issues.
• Demonstrable experience in promoting the elimination of state-imposed forced labour and upholding rights at work principles.
• Experience managing and leading a US funded project.
• Practical experience working with a variety of stakeholders including civil society organizations, and governmental and intergovernmental institutions.
• Experience in conducting capacity building activities with civil society organizations, preferably in the workers’ rights context.
• Able to work on their own initiative and with limited supervision, without requiring detailed guidance to get started but who can be given a desired outcome and figure out the action areas required to reach it.
• Able to work as part of a multicultural team working towards a common goal and respectful of differentiating working approaches.
• Flexible, versatile, and creative and able to work in a changeable & fast-moving environment, and capable to spontaneously support in project deliverables that are not in their remit where needed.
• Proactive character, suggesting solutions and approaches, anticipating problems and foresees potential challenges.
• Able to think practically, to break down and pursue the elements required to operationalise a strategy.
• Administratively competent; able to manage competing urgent demands.
• Fluent in English, written and verbal skills, additional language skills are an advantage.
