Functional responsibilities


Under the direct supervision of the Sanitation and Hygiene Markets Specialist, the intern will:

  • Collect data through desk research and by attending meetings to support with analyses related to sanitation financing and sanitation markets for SHF’s focus countries

  • Contribute to relevant data collection and analyses related to the impact of sanitation markets, focusing on gender, climate, health, and economic growth.

  • Support with preparation of documents (Google Slides, Google Doc) and models (Google Sheet) related to future planning of SHF’s projects and strategy supporting the Sanitation and Hygiene Markets Specialist and Finance Advisor.

  • Contribute to stakeholder mapping and updating of the relevant tracker spreadsheet

  • Support with preparation for sector conferences/events by supporting the technical team with research related to stakeholder meetings and event/conference sessions

  • Support regular updating of SHF’s external presentations by ensuring for example that presented figures are up-to-date

  • Other: Provide general assistance to the technical team on various projects and activities such as administrative support, scheduling of meetings, taking meeting minutes etc.

Training components and learning elements

The intern will have access to:

  • Project and portfolio documentation to learn about sanitation market development, financing, and impact assessment.

  • Official meetings to gain insights into SHF operations, UNOPS, and UN multilateral cooperation.

  • Exposure to key sector stakeholders, including startups, investors, NGOs, and sector representatives.

  • The incumbent will also have full access to UNOPS intranet  

  • The intern will have opportunities to develop skills in research, analysis, report writing, and stakeholder engagement within the sanitation sector.

Impact of Results:

The Intern will assist SHF by helping to strengthen its sanitation financing and markets work. The performance of the intern will be measured based on agreed objectives between the intern and the supervisor.


    Education/Experience/Language requirements


    Education:

    • All applicants must be enrolled in a university programme such as a bachelors , masters or Ph.D. (or equivalent), or have graduated from such studied within three (3) years prior to the application date.

    Experience:

    • Professional working experience is not required for this internship, but previous working experience (including volunteering or extracurricular involvement) will be considered a strong asset.
    • Previous experience in impact investing, international development, financial industry, or consulting is desirable
    • Experience in industry research, market analysis, or impact analysis is desirable
    • Strong proficiency in visual presentation tools (e.g. Google Slides, PowerPoint) and spreadsheet software (Google Sheets, Excel) will be considered an asset

    Language:
    • Fluency is written and oral English is required.
