Description

Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.

We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

Are you captivated by our innovative approach to peace, and do you want to contribute to the mission of our institute? Do you share our vision for a world where people live in safety and peace because conflicts and grievances are resolved through inclusive dialogue and lasting political agreements?

We are looking for a graphic designer to support the delivery of six (6) project related publication outputs to support the Peace Practice and Innovation (PPI) unit.

Your place in the team

The graphic design service provider will create visual content that effectively communicates the messages of the project deliverables implemented by the Gender and Peacemaking Programme (GPM).

The GPM programme is responsible for the implementation of the Breaking Barriers, Making Peace project which aims to contribute to the strengthening of the implementation of the WPS Agenda and Feminist Foreign Policy by providing policy makers and peace practitioners with fresh insights into good practices and strategies to overcome barriers to women’s participation in peace processes.

Reporting to the Gender & Peacemaking Programme Manager as well as working closely with the programmatic team, the graphic design service provider will prepare and develop the publication layouts of six (6) variating research outputs for publication linked to the Breaking Barriers, Making Peace project. The outputs consist of a larger global report, three country reports, a shorter summary paper and a compendium of resources.
You will

  • Create the full layouts including cover and back pages, as well as formatted text body in A4 formatted reports, ensuring sleek integration of text, readability and a professional look for the English version of:

- The Global Review – 40 pages and Global Review Extract (4-6 pages)

- The 3 Country Reports – 24 pages each, in two language formats

- The Digital Compendium – 50 pages (Tbc)

  • Develop graphics, illustrations and pictorials to be included in the report, for easy understanding of its main messages. The graphics should also be provided separately, in JPEG, PNG, and SVG formats. Ensure design consistency between the different reports and ensure alignment with EIP Brand Guidelines.
  • Develop the product based on discussions with the project team and based on drafts and input data provided by EIP.
  • Deliver the final products formatted for digital sharing (including in the editable InDesign format) and in print (in 2 copies each) (tbc).

Note: the production of the report layouts in Arabic, Amharic and Burmese (translation provided by the Institute) might be required – but is yet to be finally decided.

Your skills and experience

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Design, Branding, or another relevant discipline.
  • Proven experience in producing publications with innovative graphic designs.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of one (1) or more standard design software (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).
  • Proven experience of graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital).
  • Experience in working on reports with gender-sensitive dimensions of conflict resolution, security and peacebuilding and/or the Women, Peace and Security Agenda is an advantage.
  • Experience in graphic design with languages using non-Latin alphabets is an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
