Description

We are seeking a Public Health Expert to join our team for an upcoming proposal submission for a project requiring expertise in environmental and public health, particularly within healthcare waste management and community health risk assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Healthcare Waste Management: Lead efforts in designing and implementing medical waste disposal systems, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

  • Community Health Risk Assessment: Undertake comprehensive health risk assessments for communities exposed to environmental health hazards.

  • Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA): Contribute to the preparation of high-quality ESIA reports, management plans, and monitoring reports, in alignment with environmental health standards.

  • Public Health Specialization: Provide specialized expertise in public health, focusing on occupational health and safety, healthcare waste management, and community health.

  • Collaboration with International Standards: Utilize knowledge of World Bank environmental and social safeguards to inform project design and implementation.

Qualifications:

  • Degree: A degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field from a recognized university.

  • Experience:

    • At least 15 years of experience in healthcare waste management, occupational health and safety, or related public health specializations.

    • Proven experience in community health diagnosis and health risk assessments, particularly in relation to environmental health hazards.

    • Expertise in Medical Waste Disposal Systems and Safety Design.

    • Familiarity with World Bank environmental and social safeguards requirements.

    • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written ESIAs, management plans, and monitoring reports.

    • Experience: At least 3 projects of similar size and nature, ideally in public health or healthcare-related sectors.

Desired Experience:

  • Familiarity with public health and H&S conditions in Tonga or similar small island developing states and coastal areas.

  • Experience with medical equipment and medical waste management systems.

  • Certification in Occupational Safety & Health.

  • Knowledge of IFC EDGE Certification for environmental sustainability in healthcare.
