The Programme Assistant will support the NTDs Trachoma Elimination project funded by Helmsley. The project aims to support the implementation of interventions under the Ministry of Health’s National Trachoma Elimination Programme. The post-holder reporting to the Senior Programme Manager, is responsible for managing daily activities and supporting the delivery of the project with key stakeholders at local and national levels; acting as the key point of contact for the project within the region.

Key accountabilities include supporting with the full life cycle of the project from planning through to evaluation. Assisting with the roll out across the province, implementing Trachoma surveys, identifying WASH needs, liaising with district and community stakeholders, supporting procurement needs for the project and maintaining an inventory of project assets.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Hold a recognised qualification/degree in relevant field (Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health).
  • Previous proven work experience, ideally within an INGO environment in a similar level role
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of project management within a community development programme.
  • Working knowledge of procurement and supply chain
  • Previous experience of engaging with partners such as Government line Ministries, OPDs
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Good computer skills – use of Word and Excel.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Knowledge of local language
  • An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity for people with disabilities.
  • Experience of working with persons disabilities advantageous
  • Able to travel within the Province for the length of the tenure
  • Current and ongoing right to work in Zambia.
