Alight has been doing critical work - providing health care and clean water, shelter, protection, and economic opportunity to more than 3.5 million people in 17 countries each year.

Alight came to Sudan in 2004 as one of the first humanitarian responders to the emergency needs of some 500,000 war-affected IDPs and host populations in the Tulus and Gereida corridors in South Darfur. In 2014, Alight expanded services its reach to include East Darfur. Today, Alight serves displaced populations and host communities in Kassala, Gedaref, West Kordofan, and East and South Darfur states. Alight provides lifesaving humanitarian action, recovery, and development services in these five states, with a country office based in Port Sudan.

Field offices in Kassala, Gedaref, Nyala, El Daein, serve as the key state hubs for program delivery. Alight’s staff is more than 99 percent Sudanese, with nearly 500 full-time staff joined by over 500 incentive and community health and protection workers in delivering lifesaving programs and durable solutions in Sudan.

Alight is registered in Sudan and works closely with Federal and State Line Ministries to carry out its humanitarian and development mandates.

Purpose of the Role:

The Audit and Compliance Manager is responsible for leading Alight’s audit and risk management framework. This role oversees internal audits, donor audits, and audits of sub-grant partners to ensure financial and operational integrity. The position ensures that internal controls are effective and that the organization operates in compliance with donor requirements, national regulations, and Alight best practices. The Audit and Compliance Manager also plays a key role in fostering a culture of compliance and risk awareness across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive audit and compliance strategy to align with organizational and donor requirements.
  • Lead the execution of financial, operational, and compliance audits across Alight’s country programs and sub-grant partners.
  • Ensure that risk assessments conducted by the Risk and Compliance Coordinator inform the annual audit plan and internal control improvements.
  • Establish mechanisms for continuous monitoring of compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Oversee audit preparedness, ensuring all necessary documentation, financial records, and policies are audit-ready at all times.
  • Coordinate external audits, including donor audits, liaising with auditors to provide requested information and facilitate smooth processes.
  • Review findings from internal and external audits, ensuring corrective action plans are developed, implemented, and monitored.
  • Support sub-grant partners in strengthening their financial management, internal controls, and compliance with donor regulations.
  • Develop and update policies and standard operating procedures related to audit, compliance, and risk management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in auditing, compliance, or financial management, preferably within an NGO or donor-funded organization.
  • Strong knowledge of international auditing standards, risk management frameworks, and donor compliance regulations.
  • Experience conducting audits and strengthening internal control systems in alignment with risk management objectives.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex donor and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and reporting skills.
  • High ethical standards and ability to manage confidential information responsibly.
