Purpose of Assignment:
The Senior Health and Maternity Projects Officer is responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of health programs with a focus on maternal, newborn, and reproductive health. This includes managing field-level activities, ensuring quality service delivery, coordinating with partners and health authorities, and contributing to strategic planning and donor reporting. The role plays a key part in improving health outcomes for women and children in crisis-affected or underserved communities.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
Program Management
- Lead the planning and implementation of health and maternity-related projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and donor requirements.
- Support development of detailed work plans, budgets, and procurement plans.
- Supervise field activities and ensure timely delivery of project outputs and targets.
- Coordinate with M&E teams to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
- Contribute to the development of concept notes and proposals for new funding opportunities.
- Supervise and mentor Health and Maternity Project Officers to ensure effective field-level coordination and implementation.
- Review and validate work plans, field reports, and other deliverables submitted by project officers.
- Facilitate coordination among project officers across locations to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical guidance on maternal and reproductive health services, including antenatal, postnatal, family planning, and emergency obstetric care.
- Ensure implementation of evidence-based practices and adherence to national and international health standards (e.g., WHO, Sphere).
- Conduct capacity building for health workers and community health volunteers on relevant topics.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and clinical mentorship programs.
Coordination & Representation
- Liaise with local health authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and community leaders to ensure effective coordination and collaboration.
- Represent the organization in relevant health and reproductive health working groups or clusters.
- Maintain strong relationships with donors and prepare progress reports as required.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning
- Monitor project performance through field visits, data review, and stakeholder feedback.
- Support baseline assessments, mid-term reviews, and final evaluations.
- Document lessons learned, success stories, and best practices for continuous improvement.
Other Duties
- Ensure all activities uphold SAMS’s safeguarding, accountability, and PSEA policies.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor to support programmatic or organizational needs.
THE CANDIDATE’S REQUIREMENTS
Mandatory Qualifications required
- Bachelor’s degree in medicine, Nursing, midwifery, Human Rights, Social Work, International Relations, Psychology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred
- 3 years’ experience in Project management in NGO Sector
