We are seeking a qualified and experienced Environmental Specialist to support a consultancy assignment in Mozambique, focused on updating technical standards for rural and peri-urban electricity distribution infrastructure. The specialist will contribute expert guidance on climate adaptation, infrastructure sustainability, and environmental risk mitigation to ensure that proposed standards are resilient, practical, and aligned with global best practices.
Provide technical input on environmental and climate-related risks affecting electricity distribution infrastructure in rural and peri-urban areas.
Identify and recommend climate-resilient materials, designs, and construction practices.
Support the development of resilient infrastructure design options for flood-prone, high-wind, and corrosion-sensitive zones.
Collaborate with engineers and planners to integrate environmental safeguards into updated technical standards.
Assist in benchmarking Mozambique’s standards against international environmental and climate adaptation frameworks.
Contribute to the development of construction guidelines, material specifications, and maintenance practices that promote sustainability.
Participate in stakeholder consultations and workshops, representing environmental and resilience considerations.
A university degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Climate Resilience, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
At least 7 years of experience working on infrastructure projects with a focus on climate change adaptation and environmental sustainability.
Proven experience in supporting standard development, rural electrification, or energy infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with Mozambique’s environmental context, rural development challenges, and World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) is a strong asset.
Fluent in English; proficiency in Portuguese is highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams.
