Rainforest Foundation Norway seeks an experienced Isolated Peoples Rights-Based Rainforest Protection Adviser for the Brazil program.

We are seeking an Isolated Peoples Rights-Based Rainforest Protection Adviser to be responsible for leading and establishing the isolated indigenous peoples’ territorial corridors initiative, and leading rights-based processes on isolated people’s and rainforest´s protection in Brazil with a strategic perspective.

Location: Brazil (Home Office). The position requires working with staff, peers and partners across different countries and multiple time zones.

Reporting Structure:
This position will report directly to the head of the relevant country program.

Travel Requirements:
The role requires frequent travel within Brazil and the Amazon region.

International travel may be required for training, conferences, and meetings with RFN staff, leaders and other stakeholders at RFN’s headquarters in Oslo, Norway.

Key responsibilities:

• Carry out complex assessments, research and analyses and provide professional guidance to others
• Lead in developing, innovating and coordinating processes and deliverables under the organisational strategic objectives related to establishing the isolated peoples’ territorial corridors initiative in Brazil, with clear understanding of the transborder scope.
• Apply a high level of innovation to lead in developing the initiative, RFN´s positions and knowledge on the protection of indigenous peoples in isolation in Brazil, as well as developing thematic studies used as bases for the initiative and for creating and improving legal/institutional frameworks in Brazil.
• Lead advocacy work towards key stakeholders in Brazil to create and develop rights-based strategies and policy in favour of isolated indigenous peoples, having a very high degree of external communication and impact, often to directly negotiate or influence key actors
• Develop and implement rights-based focused partnerships/projects, in line with the country(-ies) and partnership frameworks and other RFN policies and procedures
• Actively engage in collaborative work and coordinate with Isolated People Corridors initiative in Peru.

Necessary competencies, skills and experience

• The position requires expertise in rights-based analysis and approaches to the protection of indigenous peoples in isolation and indigenous issues, built up through higher education (normally master) and/or relevant experience. Broad knowledge on the Pan Amazonian context is a plus
• Ability to work independently only with strategic guidance from the manager
• Fluency in English and Portuguese is required. Norwegian and other rainforest country languages are an asset, particularly Spanish
• Personal attributes – strong interpersonal and analytical skills with problem-solving ability
• Excellent demonstrable track record in leading assessing opportunities, challenges and directly influencing relevant actors
